As much as I like the fact that kits like the Tf2 and Gelande are readily available, I was recently looking at some of my old threads that I had subscribed to from years ago and I was inspired to build a throwback type Toyota 4x4 pickup. Sort of like Chino's old pickup, Nova's Ark's Hilux Hybrid, 51willys' Timberwolf hybrid, Mad4rnr's Bruiser Hybrid or Mike's (1badjeepbruiserhamsterrulingmotherf@&ker). It will be no where as cool or monumental as those rigs or any other of the great rigs from back in the day, and it will not be "super scale" as that term is defined now. No Yota axles. No ultimate scale t-case. No working windshield wipers, no keys in the ignition with little pig heads on the key ring (probably the coolest scale detail ever. I HEART n00b).

It will have:
-Locked and shaved and built up TLT axles, packed with grease, ball bearings, aluminum lockouts in the rear with heavy duty steel axle truss/upper link mount. Front, ball bearings, grease packed, shaved, aluminum Cs, aluminum knuckles, HD steering kit
-Leaf sprung front
-4 link rear
-Old school turned down TLT shocks
-I'd go really old school with a pede tranny but Im thinking an RC4WD R2 since I have one laying around.
-Bruiser type interior
-clear glass
-bobbed bed
-DROP BED!!!! those were rare back then
-steel sliders, bumpers
-Chassis will be a WC Machine 11.5" wheelbase chassis. Very cool chassis and awesome to build off of.

Enough blah blah

4 TLT axles broken down and I used the best parts from all four to build 2 bullet proof axles

REAR

FRONT

Turned down TLT shocks!!!!

Black HPI Stock Car wheels were the cool thing back then. Oh and cut-n-shut Mashers!

Tan TeeYota body

It weighs nothing right now and still flexes like a champ

OK I was able to mess with this a little more...

I made a cool camper top out of newspaper. Also I didnt like the hunter green hood.

Flat black. Shocker. Flat tan fender.

I added a cool "comp" number sticker to the front driver's side of the hood. I couldnt find a #110 so 31 it is. I was gonna add racing stripes and some elbow macaroni but decided against it. Axial side mirrors top it off.

I think random stickers in random spots are funny. Axial windshield wipers (no they dont work, because toy truck)

Strategically placed Marlin and Warn stickers.

That is all for now. Tune in next time.

"thumbsup" This thread reminds me of the first "scaler" that I build. I purchased a K2-5 chassis and had no idea what to do from there!

Cool idea, I just started in scaling and don't know what used to be popular.

Yeah this type of build was the "best of the best" back then. And that was before you could het a Hilux body and had to hack up a Bruiser or Mountaineer body$$$$

Haha yeah that is how we all felt. But it is builds like that that built this hobby. Great job my friend

Bruiser want WC machining chassis

Cool Tiyote

Hamsters rule

Mike the WC Machine chassis is mint. Great platform. I have a WC Machine YJ chassis somewhere here that I have been saving for a YJ build. I think you have one on the soft top YJ right? They are very hard to come by.

I was thinking about the hamsters and the 1.1 HPB Jeep XJ, and with the proline XJ body readily avail, why isnt there a 1/10 toy jerp version yet? Get on it!!!!

Yeah the black Jerp with tan soft top has one, they are a kick ass chassis for sure.

I am not sure why we haven't built a 1/10 HPB... I mean we haven't even finished his CGR ram charger though either :l

Some day

Parts...

Chassis/drivetrain

Keeping with the "Throwback" theme, SDI Trail Docs XL were the cat's meow back then. Wheels are one off Eritex Beadlocks and were once on onebadjeepbruiser's OG "clone"

Wouldn't be "Throwback" without some old school 4X4 graphics… It is hard to tell from the pics but inner fenders are in place painted textured black. Also the driver is Creepy Uncle Albert's uncle, Albert.

Enjoy
