TImely - 2.2 Dual Trailing Arm, Titanium rod Ultra 4

This is TImely, CI's latest Ultra 4 test vehicle. Gavin has put this car through its paces and it is currently apart for repairs. Casey Childs designed and built the chassis. The chassis is all titanium rod & TIG welded.

Due to time constraints, CI assembled the axles and trans, programmed the ESC, BEC, servo, & bound the RX and then sent it off to Casey. Casey did the final assembly and brought TImely to KOH 2016 for delivery. CI met up with Casey and ran TImely on the Outlaw U4 track and at the Axial track / display. I don't have any pics or video from it. I do have a few pics of TImely a couple days later;

It didn't take long to really test TImely once returning to Texas and the compound. Gavin currently has three tracks in the back for testing and tuning. TImely did not hold up well. Pics of the damage:

This Delrin brace was always temporary, time constraints kept the machined version out of the assembly, but it also broke;

More info on TImely; it uses VP Twin Hammers trailing arms in front and VP Yeti trailing arms in rear. Since it is currently apart for repairs, it will also be receiving some scale upgrades; Vanquish Products light bars and axial radiator for starts.

Whats the wheelbase with those trailing arm setup?

Nice looking rig for sure. Be interested to see the beefing up and what the final weight ends up at.

Different. Gavin can drive both TImely and the Beastly Beauty very well and each design has pros and cons.

I do not remember the WB measurement, and the car currently isn't assembled or in CI possession. My guess is roughly 15 1/4"
It is longer than the beastly beauty.

Was the purpose for the titanium weight savings? If so why not run plastic AR60 housings with aluminum beef tubes to save on weight? Just curious. I know there are benefits to the VP axles, but since these are just the RJ axles they won't have the upgraded pinion bearing so didn't see any other benefits if weight savings was the purpose of this build.

No, weight savings was not the goal. Strength and building something unique was. Well built cars are a canvas to the artist. Casey is an artist.

However, having a lighter chassis is nice because you can put the weight where you want it. U4RC rules is 8 pound minimum for 2.2 trophy class.

I would never run plastic AR60 housings or much of anything else plastic. The plastic parts flex way too much and create bent shafts and other problems.

I haven't experienced pinion bearing failures in my VP Currie RJ's. We've run them in two U4 yeti's on CI's four test tracks, as well in TImely, and in a couple crawler specific builds without issue. All on 3S and 4S lipo. My V1 VP AR60 housings were a different story and did have failures. The New V2 VP AR60 housings are incredible and have been holding up well with zero failures to report.

Gotcha, I misunderstood the intention of the Ti.

No rust, lighter than steel and it looks cool. The only issues so far have been tearing the upper link tabs apart and the cost of buying plate and having the tabs cut.

New beefed up tabs are on the way, I hope to be able to get this car back up and running within a few weeks.

It is our nature to look for new trails. One by one they come together to form a line before heading out to the trail. All the while nature carries on, as we unknowingly mimic it in our play.
