Tips to make soldering 3 wires to 1 Dean's terminal easier?

my method of doing what you need done is this....take any wire core bread wrapper and strip off the paper/plastic coating to give yourself a fine wire wrap....get your wires as you would like them soldered together but leave one 1/4" longer....that one will be soldered to the deans tab and twist the bread wrapper tightly around them to hold them in place and solder away "thumbsup" .......bob

....

That's great! I was thinking along the same lines, lashing the tinned ends together with tiny wire like I would some frayed rope. Thanks for the suggestion.

Got it done. Staggering them slightly made all the difference in the world.
This closeup makes it look pretty nasty but it's not that bad I think. I didn't have to add any solder, just used what was tinned on the wires.
Thanks for all the help!

Man, that connection is just BEGGING for some heatshrink, LOL!!!

I did the same connection as you, 3 black wires to the negative side on the deans, and three red wires to the positive side.

I stripped back the insulation on all the wires so that about 1" of wire is exposed. Then I combined the 3 wires into pony tail and applied solder all over them as to get one solid wire, then proceed to solder on to the corresponding deans terminal. Wrap with electrical tape when you're finished.

Well too late now, but for others trying this as well. I strip all the wires about .200" (3/16)) then take a hobby knife and cut about another .2 deep down, but only on one side, then take the two bare sides and align them together. Then put a chunk of heatshrink around that section and clamp(shrink it) them together, to hold them in place. After this kinda mingle the strands of the wires together just a little, then tin them. Tin your deans. Then (as long its not 12 awg wire) lay them flat onto the deans tab, and apply heat. Now i don't use a bec so i don't have 3 wires, but i'm jusre it be easy to squess that little sucker in between the two wires before heatshrinked together,

Now some tips when doing this

-Have a hot iron, and a larg tip. This will insure you get enough heat to the whole bundle.

-Before soldering the wires to deans, heat just the deans tab, and just the wires, let them get nice and warm. Do this with them close togtehr in a set of helping hands, then once they're both warm move the helping hands so they are touching with a little pressure. Apply heat again and there should be alot quicker bond.

- To prevent melted deans have the opposite gender of dean that you are soldering to. It needs to have either a foot or two of wire soldered to each tab, a pair of vice crips clamped on, a chunk of metal connect some how. Then plug it into the deans your soldering to, this will be a heat sink to keep the whole tab getting too hot and cause it melting the deans and getting a bad connection between the battery and esc.

Also a problem i seen above with the 2nd wire being solder a little ways down the line is that it can cause a cold solder joint, so you will experience less power, lower battery run time and possibly even heat coming out of that connection due to the resistance.

Now i'm no expert at soldering, this is just what i have experience of all the times i have soldered my esc's together. So i may be wrong but so far it works good for me

i just use 1 piece of 12awg, solder the end of it, with the bec, to esc #1, then strip ~1/4" of insulation in the middle of the wire, solder that to esc#2, and then run to the battery, one constant wire, so there's no resistance issues, and it's cleaner and easier to plug/unplug the battery.
