Tires rubbing shocks...

Just got my kit together this past weekend. Turning full lock, the tires rub the shock springs. unfortunately it rotates the spring and screws the collar up the shock body. whats the easiest and cheapest way to fix it?

Running stock wheels and losi rock claw tires. Everything else is stock kit. Thanks...

Just read a thread on narrowing the stock wheels. Would that help? what is a good width? Do you measure from wheel mount surface to wms for the width? Thanks.

I will do some more research on how to do the mod and what to use to glue back together.

thinking of going with TCS internal springs. are the XR10 shocks the same as AX10? will the TCS springs for the AX10 work with the XR10 shocks? what would be a good spring rate? Soft, Medium, Hard? thanks.

Just set up my xr10 this weekend too and ran into the same issue. What I did was adjust the steering EPA on my radio. Although it limits my turning slightly it was a very quick and easy fix and the tires don't rub the shocks anymore.

Narrowing the stock wheels will work and turning down your EPA will too. You can also give your truck more caster by lengthening the slot on the C-hub. It'll help in digging up hill and steering but it also gets tire out of the shock without limiting EPA by changing the pivot angle. I think it's one of the cheapest solutions and it helps the overall performance.

if you get internal springs. i recommend medium to hard.. somewhere in there.. get a couple different sets of springs. also, they most likel will be internally.

however, an easy fix that costs a little money would be to get some somewhat cheap rims with more offset. this is what i have done and am very happy with the result. they are 1/2 in. offset per wheel which is quite a bit but i have max throw and it kicks butt.

you can also limit your transmitter so it will only turn so far. with a bad A servo this works well, but we all don't have tons of money to spend on a servo, so this may not be an option.

i have my Cs straight right now. i will clock them back to the end of the stock slot and see how much that helps. how far are you guys notching the inner Cs for more caster? i think im also gonna order some internal springs. As i posted earlier the TCS springs are listed for the AX10 shocks, will they work in the XR10 shocks? thanks for you help. trying to get this thing ready for my first comp on the 13th of November in Des Moines WA.:)

The internal springs will only help so much, in my case i was still hitting the servo on full lock right.

Only real way of solving the problem is getting the inner edge of the tyre further from the chassis.

A few things will give this:
Thinner rims with the same offset will accomplish this slightly (although the wheel is further away the tyre bulges so narrowing by say 10mm will not give 10mm on the tyre)
Higher offset hubs (puts wheel further from the chassis) will accomplish this
The wideners i listed work great
Reducing the Tx's EPA is a short term fix, but in my case at least this leaves you with very little steering.

Cheers
Mark

Cut down the stock wheels, its cheap and easy. Plus by narrowing the wheels down to one inch it squishes the tire and makes it taller. You can also use 5/8 set screws as weight, they are good for .5oz each and most hardware stores carry them. The set screws are big enough they thread right into the holes in the stock wheels.

I just saw the set screw weight idea last night. Planned on going to the store tomorrow. Read some on narrowing the stock wheels. What else is good for gluing then back together besides plastic welder?

glue back together with el chepo plastic welder : i,e, an old soldering iron. Carefully melt and stitch the two halves back together, work in left over plastic (from the cut off pieces) if you need to fill gaps, bridge the peices etc.
Thats what I did, then I ran some CA (superglue) round the inside of the join to help bond.

They survived the last comp and some practice no problems. Much narrower (I removed 9mm from the width leaving them just a hair over 1inch.).
Lots of clearanc (clears VP knuckles).

The pics of the wheels I have above get stuck back togather with the stick on weights. I ran shorter screws for the bead locks, you just line everything up and stick them togather. I ran them this way till the hexes started to round out.

I cut them with a drill press and a pick

dam thats a great idea with the drill press ......going to try this out one day thanks for sharing

Tried clocking the c's back past the stock slots, cleared the shocks but rubbed my servo guard. Ended up buying some rc4wd hub adapters. clears with plenty of room. Track width is wider than I like, front is at 11 3/4". But it was cheap. Gonna have to work for now. going to clock the c's back now too. I'm to scared to narrow the stock wheels right now. Once I have some more $ I will get some off ebay so I have spares in case I make a mistake. Thanks for the input...

If these are the wideners i linked to earlier then they'll work great.

Only been used on the XR10 once but i've been bashing the hell out of these on my MRC for over a year "thumbsup"
