hey all I wanted to make a post about my experience with air up tires. I have been running tires with air for a while now on my super bully. seems more realistic that way I guess you gotta find that sweet spot for the tire to get good traction from the tire.
I started with a set of proline mashers on narrowed traxxas rims.

I normally run these aired up to about a 7 inches. they have really great grip and sometimes grip so well they bind up. it also gives me good clearance. you can see these tires in action in my video. basement rc crawling - YouTube
my other set of tires are rc4wd 40 series mudslingers. this set of tires will air up to 9+ inches. I think aired up that big would be great in the mud but idk. on my crawler I run these tires with negative pressure and I like them way better than running with foam.
these tires are kind of hard and the air seems to help compensate for the hard compound. I will post a vid of the mudslingers in action once I get some video editing done.
I plan on updating this post with more as I do more crawling. going to try the mashers aired up to around 6 inches and see how they do.
here are some pics I have of the tires.

I would also like to know how you got that much air in there.

Edit - just noticed the valve stems in the wheels. Nice!!

Are you running tubes?

To take this a little further, if you want to run air, but not want a really big diameter increase, you could laminate rubber to the underside of the tread. This would mimic a belted radial. I used to do this on my non-belted touring car tires.

I uses metal valve stems and just drilled a hole and used epoxy to glue them in. no tubes. I used dap silicone to glue the mashers to the rims and used some green slime to help prevent leaks. the mudslingers also have some silicone on the bead to help seal them up. I aired them up with a bike tire pump. here is a pic of the valve stem on the mudslingers-

i also decided to make my rc bil tires like this. i am sure that this would not be a difficult to do changes like this.
