TJ low-rider - 2010 Scale Nats Trail rig build

How's that HH motor working for you Chris, everything and then some? Are those stock foams in the tires or have you switched them out?

Have any video to share yet?

For a 17t motor, it has a lot of torque. I'm impressed with these motors yet again!

Stock foams in the tires. With the weight of the rig, they seem to be about the right firmness. Like others, I'm really impressed with these tires. Great scale looks but incredible performance for a scale tire.

Not very exciting, I know. Just wanted to get it up there. At some point, I'll make a more "full production" video. In the meantime, this at least shows what the rig is capable of.

I will say it was a hell of a lot of fun to drive yesterday. Blasting through the puddles and snow was great. I did have to take it a bit easy, since the electronics have not all been waterproofed.

"thumbsup". Thanks for sharing Chris, it look like it performs really well. Is there anything that needs tuning still, beside new yoke's? Are you happy with suspension travel, spring rate?

Suspension works pretty well with the soft shock set-up. If I was out jumping this rig all the time, I'd want to beef it up for sure, but it's meant to handle the trails mostly so it works for what it's meant for.

Need to replace the yokes and adjust the slipper. It seems to slip a little too much under throttle. Other than that, weight the wheels a bit to bring the cg down and that should be it for performance mods. It did pop a driveshaft yesterday when plowing through the snow (the last snow clip, you can hear the other half driveshaft clunking against the frame. Might put on driveshaft rings on the t-case side to prevent this from happening. Switching to Maxx outputs/shafts would be ideal, but I don't think this t-case has the clearance needed.

Other than the few performance mods, just need to install the lighting once it arrives, hook up the winch, and waterproof everything that still needs waterproofing. Then it's just time behind the wheel!

Lights installed!

damn those are some bright lights concidering the headlight bucket is black. I really like the look of the tail lights"thumbsup" you did a great job on them.

So how hard are you going to beat this beast:shock: ( lol)

Yep, Al did a great job on the lights. Installing them was the easy part :D!

I'll beat on this Jeep alright, but not as hard as the next build I have in mind  My biggest concern, as with all hardbodies, is rolling it in a hard fall and cracking the body beyond repair.

Did you ever find out what this Jeep weights?

Nope, but was comparing it to my Blazer the other day, and it feels like it weighs more. At some point I'll find out. I'll bring it with me next week to Calgary and you can try it out Justin "thumbsup"

No other real progress to report, since it is pretty much done. Covered up and painted the led wires, got some steel yokes to replace the plastic ones on the tranny-t-case driveshaft, and hooked up the winch. The winch spool is a little high so it tries to wrap the line underneath the spool. I've got a good idea how to fix that though, as I thought it might be an issue from the start. Still need to waterproof things too.

Will get it out this weekend for some more pics. Hopefully have it out for a night run too "thumbsup"

lights

Love your jeep. I was hoping you could pu up some pics of how you ran the lights. Lookin for more ideas.

Soo bad ass. Love it. "thumbsup"

Hows the steering?

Steering is actually good, other than the typical "steers like a battleship" with locked diffs. I was worried about bump steer with the frame mounted steering servo, but honestly haven't noticed it much driving "thumbsup"

Sure thing. I used the Honcho light housings, lenses and led holders. Running 5mm led's front and back. For the rear ones, I used some clear red paint on the lenses since the Honcho only has clear and yellow lenses.

Lights plug into the third channel. I have to physically connect/disconnect to turn them on/off. It shares the third channel with the winch.

Control unit is in the middle, in the space right under the center console of the body, almost like it was made for it. Painted the wires that showed flat black.

Front light buckets.

Ran the rear light wires under some styrene tubing split in half, glued on to the body, and painted flat black. The flash makes it stand out more than it actually does. Unless you're up close, you can't see the tubing.

Front light buckets sit half in/half out of the front fender wells, so just had to trim the fender wells I made up.

One word of advice, give yourself lots of extra wire for the lights. This was the second set of lights I had made up, as my first set the wires were too short. Ended up needing 12" for the front and 12" for the rear, and this Jeep is pretty short overall!

Sweet"thumbsup" "You break it, you buy it". Just kidding Chris i wouldn't do that to you........................... I'll wait till after MSD:twisted:.

Looking forward to seeing it in action. BTW i found the hardware to finish those 2.2 hummer wheels. So they'll be ready for you on thursday, minus the paint.

This thing drives and handles like a dream and that's without any weight in the tires. Thanks for letting me test drive it today Chris. "thumbsup" I already liked this Jeep before but after seeing how it performed in person I like it even more. Plus I'm sold on those shocks now:mrgreen:.

Glad you liked it Justin, even with those crappy scale tires on it ;)!

Met up with Matt (slowkrawl) to get his Honcho back to him and brought the TJ along. He and the other Matt had turns behind the wheel getting it dirty in the forest/park area. This rig is like that high school girl you knew, everyone gets to take her for a ride :D!
