I'm a bit far from Texas - even with the AR offer.

I picked up more material for the hutch today. Will get more done tomorrow.

Decided to go out to the garage tonight and get a little work done while on the phone.

It was a long conversation so I cut a couple of supports for the center of the rear panel and welded them in place before installing the rear section of pegboard. Never mind the welds, I wasn't really paying attention - phone conversation.

...and the 26" monitor up front. :mrgreen:

I stay busy here. I'm taking time away from three projects to get this thing built.

Got the monitor wired while watching the UK game.

Went to Home Depot for a 2 1/8" hole saw to recess the pucks. While there I was looking at trim moulding and bouncing ideas around in my head.

In the cull lumber area I spotted a 4' x 8' sheet of 1/4" MDF with a thin white laminate on both sides that matched the pegboard. Asked the lumber guy how much it was and he told me $2. :shock:

I didn't have a use for the entire 4' x 8' sheet so I asked the guy to cut it to 56 1/2" x 23". I paid $2 for the smaller sheet, was happy, and headed home.


Got the MDF home, sanded one side, threw down some liquid nails, pinned the edges so it couldn't move on me, and gave it some time to sit while clamped and weighted. Since the top has dimensions of 56" x 22 1/2", I had the laminate cut slightly oversize and used the router to flush cut the edges.

Took a little time to start setting up the back wall since it's in place. Still need to attach the left/right sides to the steel frame, but the back wall is now fully functional.

Here's an overall shot. It's about 75 1/2" tall.

Don't think I didn't notice that. I almost turned the wheel, straightened the screwdriver, put a battery on the impact driver, and re-took the pic. :lmao:

The wheel, no. I'll be moving the cabinet in /out soon to shim the side panels flush with the frame (3/4" frame and 3/16" pegboard) and weld the 18ga sheet to the sides of the hutch.

I went to Home Depot and picked up three 2" desk grommets. Technically, they're "furniture hole covers", but I'm accustomed to calling anything a cable passes through a grommet.

Anyway, I spaced the three grommets across the back wall. One on center and one on each side. Used Liquid Nails to secure them to the pegboard. This gives me more cable management options than I would have with a single grommet.

Got to work cutting and gluing some 1/4" MDF

Small bit of progress this morning. I figured I'd put up pictures before I forget.

Got the first mid enclosure built, covered, and installed/wired the mid.

It's hard to see in the above picture, but here's a shot of the enclosure material.

I forgot to add these earlier, but to get the face of the pegboard flush with the inside edge of the steel corners of the hutch I cut shims from some scrap 1/2" MDF. I just used the 1/2" thickness of the MDF as the width of the shim and ripped the MDF to the correct shim thickness, which was about 3/8".

And installed.

When I'm ready to permanently mount the side walls I'll use some silicone on the back of the shims. That won't come until I weld the 18ga outer skins in place and prime/paint the frame.

Ya that's what I have now, but my bx has to be mobile around the plant floor so the never stsy in place even with skidless liners.

I just arrange mine by size like in this picture. I have SAE, metric, and Torx T-handles here. Not 100% happy with this because of the space it consumes - which is less than cutting slots in foam - but it works for now.

I just cleaned and organized my box. Used to be a mechanic at 4 wheel parts then a fleet mechanic after that, so I'm not short on tools. But after stumbling on this thread I need to get back out to the shop.

This was listed in there. Cheaper than buying multiple dish drains if you have a bunch of pliers you'd like to store like this.
