Toyota's New Slogan

That thing with Ford and Firestone didn't have much merit in my eyes. I have two relatives that drove around for years with those Firestone tires before Ford replaced them for free. The one set was over 5 years old. I seen an Explorer doing 65mph sideways on the turnpike in the lane next to and didn't flip over.

Toyota designed the gas pedal like a ramp and that is a design flaw IMO. I agree though people are real stupid with floor mats. I have the molded to the floor shape husky liners in my truck that hold over a gallon of liquid and theres no way they will mess with the pedal. Toyota will get past past this deal no problem they have always treated their customers decent in the past. I'm a Ford guy but I would like a Tacoma because they are nice trucks, my friend has one. I still hate the Prius though, its an overcomplicated waste IMO.

You can thank the goverment for the whole throttle by wire deal, they mandated. There is a lot of things the goverment should stay out of.

I like toyota,I also know that my mats always do work up into the pedal.
but like I said,it never causes throttle,it actually limits it.

seems to me a simple fix if it is the mats is to make mats that are stationary. my wifes nitro has a tab in the mat that prevents it from moving.

and you know that the problem will get resolved.
I just hope that they have the problem figured out.

in our area DFW
a woman lost her family when their toyota went into a pond.
was it the floor mat,or something else?
I dont know.but I know a woman has lost her children and husband.
basically her whole life has vanished.

the problem must be solved.

The carpet has 2 eyelets in which 2 plastic hooks snap into that secure the mat. Issue is that over time the plastic hooks can break...not a huge issue considering they are just a few dollars but people don't replace them and then you have the floor mats looking like they did in the 4runner...

My whole bitch is how bad the media is making this out to be, I don't remember the commissioner of the highway whatever hell telling everyone not to drive there explorer when the tires were exploding. I think they are out to hurt Toyota since they are on top and trying to get people to buy "american"...Yet all the vehicles that have the problems are MADE HERE! Vin starts with a J means its made in Japan, starts with a 2t1b like the camry's its made here in the US.

Is that what you heard? That because its "ramped" there is a problem? There are 2 recalls right now....all the cars except for 4runners,tacos, and yaris are getting the pedal shim. ONLY the camry gets the shim and the pedal modification.

The pedal modification has us remove maybe a half inch off the bottom of the pedal...that is it..then we have to replace the tibia pad under the carpet and put a rubber square in... This whole process IS because of the floor mats

I can agree that the press on their own blows things out.
and sometimes I think at the direction of others to pull attention away from something else.

it only got my attention when I heard the woman had taken the car in 3 times for a stuck throttle. and nothing was done.

now her family is gone.
that really gets me.
even if she's a idiot and it was the tabs.
why couldnt the mechanic figure that out? why after 3 attempts from her to get it fixed none of the brilliant minds at her dealer couldnt figure it out for her?

I just hope they truelly have the problem pin pointed.
and no other lose of life will result.

Unfortunately when businesses grow really fast the first thing to suffer is usually quality. IMO Toyota simply got over the tips of their skis with a huge market share and maintaining their core principles of quality design to delivery and has had a major failure. The damage to their reputation is unknown at this time but it will be measured by it's future sales.

The news media doesn't do any honest journalism any more they spin everything to appeal to their target markets. All I need from the news media the weather report and their not to good at that either. :ror:

you cant seriousley blame all those sticking pedals on a floormat that gets stuck under the pedal.. Which would LIMIT the movement

If the floor mat gets all bunched up and now it has almost rolls in it (which I have seen) and the customer goes to merge and punches it (which we all know Toyotas lack power) and now the pedal passes over that hump in the mat how is it suppose to return???

Im not blaming it solely on the mats, I just at this point don't think anyone really knows the truth in the problem.

I'm still laughing at the first post-- I own 1 Ford, 1 Mercury & 1 Lincoln-All Ford electronics suck big time- as do their intake mainifolds-- but I'm still laughing -they might be POS's, but all are paid off. Better have a sense of humor in this world-- we're gonna need it ! Toyota mats have been moving for years (as do alot of others, theirs aren't the only ones)

I will stick to my 95 YJ it takes a beating!! Hell I may get stuck on a rock but my throttle won't get stuck!

Toyota will have to work its butt off to get back the respect and reliability safety record they once had. I know I would stay away from them for a long time. Its a shame too they have some nice vehicles too.

I think it's a byproduct of emissions and mileage laws.

Correct. Basically the computer controls the throttle since there is no mechanical link from the gas pedal to the throttle body. The throttle does what the pcm is programmed to do.

Is that what you heard?

From the gas pedal pics I saw that looks to me like a big part of the reason the pedal likes to catch floor mats. Heres the link to the pic I'm referring to... http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/25/breaking-toyota-to-recall-3-8m-vehicles-to-reshape-and-replace/ Looks like a really poor pedal design to me.

Other manufacturers got hammered just as bad if not worse in the media, like Ford did years ago. Its no worse for Toyota. Years ago it seemed like the media and magazines had a love affair with GM, times have changed for them.
