Hi guys, I'll be over for the Nats in Vegas and want the stay in contact with family etc.. What's the deal with pre paid phone cards over there? What do they cost and who/where from? And do they have data too?

Thanks in advance guys "thumbsup"

Cheers
Dan

Ummm lol I know in this part of the states they have a lot of cards to call to Mexico.........but they might work for other places also lol normally I've seen you can get like a $5 or $10 card and in states calls are ten cents a minute so I would assume yours would probably be like thirty five cents a minute.

You would prob be better off buying a prepaid cell phone if u want to be able to text and stuff

I'd have agree, the whole phone card thing can get annoying and frustrating, just get something simple, if you plan on only calling for a little bit like ten to twenty min a night, I'd say a track phone would work just fine

I would say bring a laptop if you have one and skype or go through Facebook to communicate. I had to use it when my wife was out of the country and our phones would not work. pretty easy to do."thumbsup"

Or a pre-paid sim card.

BTW, dont forget about your credit cards....when you travel abroad, they will typically charge you an exchange rate fee....usually ~3% for their effort. Not a big deal ($15/$500 spent), but still there...

They sell prepaid sim cards now? Ive never owned a prepaid phone so I have no clue but I do know u can get a complete phone. Back in the day when my buddy had one he would go buy a card and call it to reload his minutes or whatever.

Another option, if you and your family have the newer ipods you could talk via facetime ( I think?) which is kinda like skype and I believe it is free also. Ive been told you can make phone calls via skype on an ipod touch??

Just take a laptop and use skype. It works great to Australia as I have talked to my cousins over there before. Bonus is it's free!!!!

Thanks for the replies"thumbsup"

I skype with friends and i plan to skype with the family.. i was just thinking to bring my iphone as it will be handy to text/talk family but also contact guys over there if i picked up a card for it... back here we can buy sim cards for $2 then just add phone credit to make calls

I got you, just misunderstood. There are several companies that you can do this with. Virgin Mobile could be an option.
