travis barker really dead!?

I liked Blink182 long ago before Travis was in the band, actually I liked his other band The AquaBats more. Crap I see he was also in the Suicide Machines. Wow so in the end I can say every band he was in I liked at some point.

Blink182 got way pop, though they've always been the teeny pop punk sound that seems to sell on the radio.

Oh well no need to hate, the man has more money that I will thanks to being in Blink182.

personally im glad blink isnt around anymore... some of their older albums were cool but they went down the toilet. barker is the shit, the guy's a walking art gallary and one hell of a drummer. oh and the cadillacs are cool too.

The guy really is an amazing drummer.

Travis did about a 10 minute solo in the middle of the crowd. He is a damn good drummer.

and one hell of a drummer.

Travis Barker is not a very good drummer, just like his caddies he is way more show than go.

Now I may not be a pro but I've been playing drums for more than 15 years, if you want to see some good drummers check out:

Steve Jordan
Stanton Moore
Thomas Lang
Steve Gadd
Gregg Bissonette

Here is a killer drum site so you can compare side by side with the "famed" Travis:

Actually you got to check out the Thomas Lang video he is a technical master with the sticks!!!

chesire cat was good, buddah was almost the same thing, and I never did get fly swatter, although most dont even know about that... they started to sell out after dude ranch, "dammit" is what made them IMO then when enema of the state came out and they had songs like "all the small things" it was officially over

Now I know why I am called boy band...I guess Jason and John noticed the blink 182 in my ipod:lol:... because I do have chesire cat on there...

Sadly I couldn't tell you any band any of these "drummers" are in and I like music. Also if they are in huge bands, I doubt they compare to Neil Peart from Rush anyhow. Wow I just Googled them all. Not one has been a successful band member, those guys are all typical studio drummers. They maybe good, but if you can't be in a well known band solidly people in the mass public have no respect for you.

And to top it off the good ole fashioned way...Travis is likely pulling in more $ than those 5 added together.

they are all 'side guys' that are hired guns for tours and sessions. most of these guys make a great living playing for a solo artist, and can maintain anonymity. and if the band craps out, they just pick up another gig. but i understand what you are saying as well. case in point, josh freese. great rock/punk session drummer, played/ghosted on everyone's records, but has never been a band member.

All that says to me is they have no talent to keep a band running. It's not easy being in a lasting band.

I understand some people can't handle the atmosphere, but then I doubt you can be called the greatest if you have no band to be tied to. Like I said go ask Joe Blow walking down the street any one of their names and which tour or band they played with.

Now ask about Travis Barker, Neil Peart, or Tommy Lee. Only one of those names is a great drummer, but the other 2 are very well known making their "skill and talent" held higher than they might really be.

Steve Gadd (born April 9, 1945 in Rochester, New York) is a well-known session and studio drummer, mainly known for work with Paul Simon, Steely Dan, Joe Cocker, Stuff, Bob James, Chick Corea, Eric Clapton, James Taylor, Jim Croce, Eddie Gomez, The Manhattan Transfer, Michal Urbaniak, Steps Ahead, Al Di Meola, Manhattan Jazz Quintet, Richard Tee and many others. Gadd is arguably the most recorded drummer in history, featured on over 600 albums. Gadd is renowned for his incredible ability to play "in the pocket," or to groove especially well with the music, or other instruments/musicians he is playing with.

saying they don't have talent to keep a band running does not make sense. what specific talent is that called? 'not having the record label drop you' talent? 'keep the guitarist off of heroin' talent?

it's not about not being able to handle the atmosphere. believe it or not, some people don't want to be famous. does that mean they should not be able to make a living as a professional musician?

asking 'joe blow' does not prove anything. joe blow could not name a top 5 r/c crawling nationals finalist either. does that mean they are not talented?

point is they are just as talented as any rock stars, if not more, in many cases. in fact, most of these 'nobodys' mentioned have ghosted for famous drummers on their albums. ever heard of simon phillips? well, you have at least heard his playing with a bazillion different bands on their albums. nah, he can't be talented.

he sucks. joe blow has never heard of him.

My point is that guys like Travis and Tommy rely on their cool guy "look" rather than their talent. Guys like Neil Peart, Portnoy and the other studio guys that I mentioned have the talent and right "sound". I bet at least 70% of what you hear on the radio was recorded by studio drummers. I bet you can even find instances where a studio drummer has had to fill in on recordings when the other guys couldn't hack it.

I also think you don't need to be in a famous band to be the best drummer, in fact I think you can't becuase to be good you need to preactice constantly. This is most evident with todays current batch of board room and studio generated pop/rock stars. You don't even need to know how to sing anymore to be on Mtv, you just need to look cool. This very thing is super frustrating for musicians like myself who are trying to hone our talents rather than our image or style.

My 2 cents

Oh ya I'd like to also give some props to some of my other fav's:

John Bonham, or better put "John F'ing Bonham, the best rock drummer ever, the king of heavy metal!!!"

Mitch Mitchell

Dave Girrabaldi

I could go on for days...
