Has anyone switched out their old peg style slipper clutchs(rustler or pedes) to the new VXL style slipper?

My Rustler still has the Ancient XL-1 in it and a 19 turn double. Im thinking about freshing the old girl up some.

I quit using slipper clutches, one of my trannys was for a crawler and slippers aren't best at times, so I stuck it in my stampede. Worked great, other then I kept ripping the outer axles apart. Tho I ran a 10t but if you stay with a 19t or a little lower it should be fine.

I have not used the VXL style slipper, But i know the stock slash slipper isn't all that bad with a vxl in it. Unless that is a vxl style slipper?

i personally hate the traxxas slash slipper, over engineered and it never tracks straight(wobbly). they should have went with a more traditional setup. though it is not fun replacing those darned friction pegs. i would personally use the old style.

yea lots of gear wobble on the slash slipper and its not all that great i cant get it to quit slipping nomatter how tight i get it i can still get it to slip with ease on a full throttle launch with a novak 8.5t brushless system in it

Well by the sound of it Im going to leave it the way it is. I dont plan on going brushless anyway. Thanks guys!

I swapped one into my Pede a few years back, much better than the original peg style slipper. It does have a slight wobble, but I don't know if you'll find a cast plastic spur that doesn't have a wobble to it. If you clamp it down tight then back the nut off 1/4 to 1/2 a turn it should work nicely for you.

i say change it! i have had many slashes and never had one problem with the slipper. and a lot with the old style. i know the gears are not stright but as long as the mesh is good there is nothing to worrie about with that part of it. as far as working on them i think there one of the best ones to work on. if you can i would just replace the whole trans!!!!"thumbsup"

Are there any differences in the new VXL 272 verse the old SL-1 Rustler 272? Im thinking about picking up an XL-5 or Novak Rooster ESC. I dont plan on taking it to Brushless or running LiPos.

The VXL transmission is all metal gears and the mold is a little different to make the transmission stiffer and allow the motor to cool a little better.

You can just get the new dif and steel idler. It does make the transmission smoother and more durable.

Ive got the steel idler in in right now. Althought I might do a little looking into this new tranny. Im in no big huge hurry. Need to get my 1.9 Axial based Blazer going. Have most of the stuff ordered for it just waiting for it to get here.

I've got the VXL trans setup in my Rustler, & the trans case is from a older XL-1 version. everything works fine, I still need to switch over ro the new style slipper, just waiting to run out of slipper pegs-I stocked up on them over the years:?

One of the best things I ever did on my Pede was get rid of those stupid red pegs! I've even managed to get 3 years out of one spur gear too, I was lucky to get one day out of the old ones at times.
