So i have a dumb newbie question. i'm thinking my receiver is shorted out, it will run for 2 seconds shut down, once i tap it or something it goes again. Now my question is, can i get just a new receiver or do i have to get a full radio receiver set?

Check ebay. You can even get the micro 4 channel (which I'm using) and it's only like $15 new.

E-bay is a good place to find Traxxas Radios. Guys strip new Traxxas kits and sell just parts. A lot of time. They are Auctions and not Buy it Nows. And if your Lucky. At times E-bay gets flooded with them. So you can snag them Cheap.
