I'm pretty new to the crawler industry, and I wonder what the differences in all the different styles are

The High Trail TRX has the long travel kit and 2.2's vs 1.9's of the standard TRX's. (2.2's on a TRX, even with long travel look a bit goofy to me.)

A standard TRX4 is very capable and there is an absolute ton of aftermarket to make it your own and focus on the direction you want to take it. It's a great platform to really geek out on scale factor with, but it can also be made to be a really stripped down, focused rig for rocks. Mine is more on the scale side of things because I have a lot of other rigs better suited to true rock crawling. The TRX4 is my go to trail rig though and even scaled out and weighing in as one of my heavier rigs, it does well on rocks overall.

being new to crawling you are going to enjoy either version. I started with a high trail version and loved it. Traxxas makes a solid crawler that works well and the support system is unmatched. TRAXAS is not the only brand, but it's a solid one. parts are available everywhere. I feel the first crawler should be something that is serviceable. If you end up getting hooked things are going to change, but you will always appreciate having a rig that needs nothing but a charged battery to enjoy. I am growing my collection and done lots of modifications and a "scratch" build ...but I (friends and I) always enjoy a semi scale rig on the rocks and on the trail......
