Last week my only lightweight/small battery I had got damaged when it was dislodged from the tray on the trail. It was only a month or so old and cost about $40 shipped so I was bummed to lose a good battery so early on.

I also have quite a few hobbyking zippy packs but these are a little heavier and are lower C ratings, a couple are “puffing” from venting so I’m going to move away from those as well.

Since last two times I bought a “name brand” battery I didn’t feel like I got money’s worth (my fault one of the times) I went back to hobbyking to see what other options they had. I landed on these Turnigy Bolt batteries that are lihv, small, high C ratings, and relatively light. For example, the 3S 850mah batteries I grabbed just for comp runs only weigh 80g.

When all was said and done it cost just over $100 shipped for 6 small batteries and some Velcro straps. These were US stock so I had them in a few days to boot.

Initial impressions are good from a physical dimension perspective and on paper specs, but I’m wondering if any of y’all have experience with these and what your thoughts are. Pic below with a 1.9 BFG Krawler XL size for scale, and a servo horn for comparison’s sake as well.

Pictured left to right:
1300mah 3S 65-130C x 2
850mah 3S 65-130C x 3
1000mah 4S 65-130 x 1

And a link to one of them...

Nice ones ...I had years ago some turnigy battery but 2s and hardcases...they were pretty decent and easy to get here in Europe.
Now I only buy Gaoneng GNB here from a store local...they are excellent. GAONENG They have actually a US office

Can’t say I ever remember seeing the Bolts on the HK website. How are your runtimes on those batts Topher?

Seems those are only available in bulk? Maybe I looked at the wrong place.

They showed up this weekend while I was out of town so I haven’t had a chance to run them yet but I’ll run the 850mah and the 1300mah 3s through the gamechanger 4.2 this coming weekend.

I am using the 850mah 3S Bolt on my shafty. I haven't had them long, but so far so good. Performance/size is as hoped and no issues with puffing yet.

They puff up faster than a hot chick after she says I do. I wasted my money on them once and all 4 that I bought ballooned up in a handful of cycles.

Damn. The Bolts? Hoping I have better luck with these.

Yea I had the 850 3s like yours and they puffed being ran on my sporty so not exactly a super high demand rig. If those little packs were asked to run my bomber then I'd be a lot more understanding but they weren't so I say they're trash.

As I said on "the book," I've had great luck with Turnigy batteries over the years. All batteries from HobbyKing have been great really, except two. And I treat my packs poorly - I leave them sitting around fully charged or dead. I always balance charge, but I never storage charge them.

I haven't gotten any HV packs because I don't have the charger to take advantage of them. Although from general reading it seems fully charging HV batteries leads to shorter life anyway which seems to nullify their supposed advantage.

There isn't too much out there on them so I guess you're one of the guinea pigs. Keep us updated.

Put some time on these this morning and so far so good. Batteries didn’t get hot or anything.

I got a surprising 50 minutes out of the 800mah pack, some of that time the truck was sitting while the person I as wheeling with was hitting the lines but I was happy with the run time and performance. My servo horn dropped before I could kill the 1300mah pack.

Now to see if they last without puffing

Well it’s been a couple months and while I haven’t done a ton of wheeling during that time frame these batteries have met expectations. Good run times, no puffing or heat issues, and great performance.

No complaints from me.
