Um, stupid ? I feel, but is it ok to leave your batt pack plugged into your esc??????

I hear many times unplug it. I just finished a crawler, and it would be easier and more convenient to leave it plugged in. Its a just a 6-cell NiMH and a Traxxas XL-5 esc.

So any problems with just turning off the esc and leaving them plugged in?

i have left regular nimh/nicd packs plugged in to esc with on off, but i always unplug my lipo battery when im not using it

Not a good idea with any type of battery.

The on/off switch only turns off the BEC in the ESC, cutting power to the radio. Power still flows through the "drive" side of the speedy; FETS and stuff.

This will totally flatten your battery over time, resulting in a rooted NiMH or a puffed and potentially explosive LiPO. Also, like a resistor, this current going nowhere will cause a build up of heat in the ESC. I have seen a ESC ruined from this. The FETs just burned out because they were just left fractionally "on".

X-2, just unplug it.
just because the switch is off doesn't mean current is not flowing.
NiMH cells don't have a memory. So tech. You can drain them and be fine. But if you keep draining them, they don't last as long. They do however have cycles. Once those are gone, the battery is useless.

Its best to just get in the habit of taking care of your truck as it should be to avoid costly repairs or un needed explosions.

Unplug it. It's a good habit to get into because eventually if you stick with crawling you'll be using 3 cell lipos with external BECs driving the servo directly. That will kill you servo and battery if left plugged in.

I would rewire it so the plug is in a more convenient location. That's on my to-do list for my scaler as well.

Always unplug. I've killed lipos by forgetting to unplug them. I like to bypass the esc switch, so lights on esc stay as a reminder to unplug. Hope this helps.
