Who's had em?

I just lost a few hundred for the next few weeks. I'm not too happy. I am happy because they will be refunded, but its gotta go through paypal dispute bs, and atop of that it'll take 3-6 weeks before i'll get a new paypal debit card.

Oh if some one wants to know the story here it is.

I'm sitting in class, and my phone beeps, i figured it was just an email. But about every 30 seconds it beeped this goes on for a few minutes. So about 10 minutes later i had the chance to check and see what was going on. Well it turned out i had a few hundred yanked out of my paypal account via paypal debit card. It was a $1 charge, then a $70-90 charge. Multiple times in a row, always different big price. Finally my account reached a low balance and declined the rest of attempts. At this time i was enraged with fury in my head, but managed to physically stay clam, finished up the class. Came home got onto paypal seen it was FACEBOOK*CREDITS that was charging my account. I'm thinking WTF i don't even have a face book and have never even considered advertising on facebook. So i call paypal, get some india woman on the phone. I explain what just happened, she must have missed something and asked me what my question was, i told her they were unauthorized transaction (this is the funny part, made my day) she was like "OH, your card has been compromised" i cracked up in my head. She went on and on about disputes and such, it turns out i have to do absoultly nothing and just apply for a new debit card. She said she would file all the disputes and i should receive email notification on whats happening.

Now i know ya'll ask, but only place i use my paypal debit (or any debit card)

usps
mouser elec
digi key
radio shack
wal-mart
city-market
maverik (gas station)

Oh wait a sec i did go to wendy's today, who knows what the person was doing while i was in the drive through.

Anyways thats my day, now i'm broke. Anyone else been a victim of this. I'm lucky because paypal student debit cards are covered 100% against any unauthorized transactions, but i still have to come up with a way to pay to ship everything off tomorrow, and manage to order parts. Maybe i'll tap into my savings account, don't feel to comfortable my checking account debit card online though

Often cards are swiped on a secondary machine out of sight at fast food drive thru's. Allows the worker to steal your cc info. It can also happen at ATM's with secondary readers mounted on top of the real unit as a passthrough.

That is why A) I don't keep any money in PayPal, B) why I don't keep any money in the account its linked to, and C) its not linked to a credit or debit card.

About 2 years ago someone got ahold of a card Citi card I had that had no preset limit. They managed to charge over $50k in about 3 days. Lots of random crap, I even got some of it at my house. There was one $8500 charge for a necklace that came to my house. It was complete junk costume stuff. I got to keep that along with a bunch of random get rich quick books. The rest went to China. The CC company told me most likely I bought something online and that company sold my info to another company. I will give Citi credit in that they did not even argue. They locked the card, sent me a new one and credited everything back within a month or so. But I did sweat it for a little while.

gas stations are notorious for card scams
this happened to us. they busted the guy he had a GPS in his car with saved addresses from LA upto Seattle he would travel up n down I-5 collecting the info on the card readers he had installed on the credit swiper on the pump. I always go inside if I have to pay with credit/ debit card.

We had some unauthorized charges on my Wifes credit card about a month back. We found out because the credit card company contacted us to ask if these were legitimate transactions. Which of course they werent since all the charges were over 600 miles away and we were here at home. Everything was covered so we didnt lose anything, they just locked the card and sent us a new one. But heres the kicker, it was a brand new card that she only used once at Target the day before these charges started popping up. Made it pretty easy to trace the theft. Now we watch our credit and debit cards like a hawk every time they leave our hands, not that it will help but it cant hurt.

CORA-USA's card is used 1 month a year for our event, I just got done filing fraud on some charges that came from Cali. and we're in Ne.
They generated a card and got lucky but they didn't have the 3 digit code. luckily we keep only small balances rotating. They checked the card about 3-4 times before they made purchases but found that they were declined (luckily) on some large purchases.
The bank is refunding the charges and locked the card for suspicious activity. Now they are looking into who checked the card at both Walmart and a large drug store chain.
Needless to say, I'm prosicuting.

Never ever ever ever click on links in emails unless you personally know who sent it to you, even then be careful. Always go to the site in question by your usual route or by typing it into your browser.
