Hey guys just bought my first Yeti kit and not sure what esc and motor i want to run. I know that alot depends on how and what im going to run it on! I know im going to bash some but still want to play on the rocks with the guys i normally crawl with. So what would be the best direction to go on a esc and motor?

I have a mamba max pro and tenshock sc401 v2 3400kv non sensored if you want to crawl with it get a scx10 and use the yeti for speed bashing

The "Best" is in relation to your personal needs. That being said, this is my setup and I quite like it.

ESC - Mamba Max Pro

Motor - Turnigy 1/8 2350kv sensored

I suggest using at least 3s, 4s is even better with this setup.

Alternatives - HOBBYWING North America — XERUN 150A COMBO (M-Series) Combo M5B

OR
For a more 1/10 setup

ESC - MMP
Motor HOBBYWING North America — Xerun Sensored Brushless Motor 3656 SD

Whatever you do GO sensored! The keep the KV between 2000 - 4000 and gear / volt accordingly.
There are more threads dedicated to motor esc choices. The Yeti isn't much different than most trucks in choosing a motor. It's just a bit bigger.

Mamba max pro, Tekin pro 4 hd 3000kv sensored, 3s lipo, I love it, it has big power and very efficient.

Thanks guys for the info I do have a scx10 already just for crawling. Just wanted to be able to play on some rock's here and there.

Sensored system in the 3000-4000kv range. 4 Pole of course. Make sure the motor is rated for the voltage you want to use it at.

Mamba max pro is popular and a great option....less expensive that the crawler community equal and you get a fan. But the internal BEC is questionable on most high performance servos. The Traxxas funny car is almost the same ESC only limited to 3s. Tekin RX-8 is more ESC than you need for this rig so I think you would be tossing money out the window if you go that route. Hobbywing is an option for those who want to save money and don't care about quality.

Tekin makes some great sensored motors and can be reason on price depending where you buy. Call tekin direct, they will recommend a nice system for you.

If you're not looking to do any slow speed low RPM stuff with it, you could always go with the Castle Sidewinder SCT with the 3800 - gobs of power and speed! The other option would be, buy a 2 speed transmission and you wouldn't have to worry about a sensored system as much.

Keep up posted

Just a tip, the ET-3S from the Traxxas funny car is identical to a MMP, just has limiting firmware. It can be flashed with official MMP firmware to unlock all features and use up to 6S power.
Google "flash official castle firmware et-3s" and you'll find the instructions in the traxxas forum.
This is what I use in my Yeti with a Pro4HD 3000Kv motor. Works very well.

I'm surprised this thread hasn't come up yet. Maybe it did. In my opinion you can't go wrong with the MMP! It's very versatile so you can change batts, motors and sensor/no sensor and still use it. The motor is a little more complicated. I was set on a Tekin Pro4 HD but the $$ made me hold off. It might be the best motor. I tried the 2500kv a friend had but it's too slow for me. I ended up buying a toro pro4??? It's a cheap knock off but looks good?? Haven't tried it yet. HH has a new sensor capable esc that looks great. Similar to the MMP. And his brushless, sensored 550 can puller looks like a winner.

I'd go with 2 options:

Cheap and easy for bashing: Very hard to beat the stock RTR stuff and you can find that super cheap. Decent ESC and Motor for a good price (add a BEC and 3S all day).

Best you can get: HH 540XL motor and Mamba Max Pro.

Though I wonder how the HH BLE Pro does, will it support the 540XL?

The ble pro does well with the xl when set to 8k frequency. Driver, rig, and conditions determine whether it needs a fan to keep cool.
