What would a Reedy Sonic 17.5 m2 540 motor be best suited for?

So I recently got a used reedy sonic 17.5 motor, and was wondering if it could be used in a wraith for trail rides, hill climbs, and light crawling. All the info I see on the motor is it's built for racing, not sure how it'd be in a heavy wraith with xl tires. Anyone have any experience with these motors. Timing is adjustable on the can. I do have a few short course trucks I can throw the motor in if that's more suited for it. They are both brushless now, but sensorless. Either way a new esc will be ordered, as my wraith is brushed.

Its not going to be as powerful as most of the populous here would like, but it will certainly work. I'm currently running a Tekin gen1 10.5 turn geared 16/87 on 2s and it crawls well enough while topping out at about 7mph. It's plenty for most hillclimbs.

Your motor is slower than mine, but you said your truck is heavy with larger than stock tires, so I'm going to guess a 15/87 ratio to start, unless your running 3s in which case start at about 14/87. Run it without any timing advance through the esc and it should stay cool enough for extended running.

I ran a old Trinity 17.5T in my SCX10 for a while, it was fine. Set your gearing right and it feels much like a cheap 27T brushed motor.

One thing to note is even though the timing on the endbell is adjustable, a lot of racing motors have a good amount of timing built in already. While it may say 0 on the can, it could really be 10-20* of timing so make sure you run it in the proper direction.

I run 17.5 sensored motors in quite a few of my scalers. About the same RPM as a 27t brushed, but far more efficient. Agreed on the 14/87 gearing as a start.

Ok, all good info. Currently have 11/56 in 32p. Little high for 3s. I'll get some new gears too. Though it seems the motor is only rated for 2s, and I have no intention on buying 2s batteries. It was only $10.50 so no biggie If it fries. Currently I have a 24t 550 titan Marine motor, and if it's going to have less torque, I'll just throw it in my son's 2wd circuit and use his 7 cell nihm packs. He's only 4 so no 3s for him yet.

I ran a Trackstar 17.5 in my Bomber for a short time. It certainly wasn't as powerful as a better 4 pole 540 or 550, but it was stronger than a typical brushed motor, and the low speed startup was pretty good.

Did you run it on 3s?

I don't remember. The ESC burned up pretty quickly and I converted to a Castle setup. I don't think I ever used 3s on that first configuration.
