What's the shelf life of Bondo and hardener

I was filling some seams on a Mojave body yesterday and noticed that the stuff didn't want to dry. The hardener was a little runny when I used it even after I kneaded it.

Where did you store it when not in use? if it was cold for any long length of time, the hardener separates and goes bad. No matter how much kneading you do it never seems to mix again. age can affect it too. if it has been sitting around for a long time (year or more) it can go bad. I am a body guy by trade and our suppliers usually rotate our old/unused inventory once a year.

Thanks ax10 bronco, it has been sitting for almost two years. I was hoping a body and fender guy would respond. It's in the garbage tonight.

I had some hardener act like that right out of the package once... It had a wierd consistancy and wouldnt spread and then set up WAY harder than I am used to - I think it ruined the body I used it on, jury is still out on that one though.

Hey Raceeng18....or anyone else....do you mind sharing what brand of Bondo you were using or going to use....and can you buy a small amount of it? I understand it shrinks a little and you want to allow for that and sand it down. This is all new to me. I have a hard body I want to fill in some holes.

Is there anything else you can use besides Bondo ???

I am in the same boat as you - total noob with this stuff. I wish I had paid more attention to Hoosierdaddys "What glue to use" thread. I started off with plastic bumper repair thinking that should work but it wont. It sets up a lot harder than the plastic around it so when you sand you eat away at the surrounding plastic making the difference greater instead of smoother. Use the "glazing putty" bondo makes that walmart sells, Hoosierdaddy has a pic of it in his thread (http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/pain...e-body-work-repairing-cracks-plastic-why.html) - it is amazing stuff! Using the wrong thing has set this back MONTHS probably http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/paint-body/457583-fast-lane-foose-f150.html, I wish I had done more research. Hope that novel helps lol

That was what I was looking for ...thanks for the link Sgtbham..."thumbsup"
I have something I can practice with also...lord know I need it...
