which tacon motor will fit ?

trying to go as cheap as possible with this mrc pro .
want to go cheap brush-less because i already have a unsensored esc for it.


my two options that i think are best are:
Tacon 2040-30T Brushless Motor 1800KV for 1/16 1/18 Car Trucks or
Tacon 2040-27T Brushless Motor 2080KV for 1/16 1/18 Car Trucks

dont know if the 1800kv will fit because of the large bearing on mounting face and dont know if the 2080 kv finned one will fit because of the length

Neither of those motors will fit with out modification. You will have to file down the fins on the back side of the motor because the motor is so long it comes in contact with the the TVP of the pro chassis. Also both those motors will be very slow. They will be much better at not cogging since they are low kv non sensored motors. You will lack in wheel speed very much. Although if you do run them on 3s they may just make the cut for wheel speed. I run a Tacon 3600kv 2040 (without fins) on 2s. It seems to do fine for what it is.

I'm planning to use my brushed setup from my regular MRC in my Pro when it gets here but would like to upgrade to brushless at some point. Nice to know they don't have to be prohibitively expensive like ey used to be. I've been out of the hobby for too long, lol.

Yoda, I just looked at your links again. Sorry I was mistaken. The 1800kv motor will fit with no motor mods needed. The motor plate will need modding because of the front motor bearing is external. It will need to fit through the motor plate. I wanted to try that motor in mine but like I stated earlier the 3600kv motor is almost to slow with only 2s lipo. I had a 4120kv on 2s and the wheel speed was about equal to the mongoose 18.5 crawler system. Cogging and slow speed where the problem. With the 1800kv you will need 3s for sure. Maybe even 4s. What ESC do you plan to use?

Mrdublin, I ran the Hobbywing version of that motor. It did work pretty well. It is a tiny light weight motor so no problems fitting it in the pro chassis at all. I just wish it was available in a lower kv rating as that 5200kv was a bit fast and was hard to make slow.

Just some food for thought. If I were going to attempt the sensor less brushless inrunner motor on a MRC pro again I think this would be my first try. Tacon 2030-21T Brushless Motor 4300KV for 1/16 1/18 Car Trucks
It should bolt up with no mods at all. (sorry for all the posts. I just decided I had a lot to say about these motors)

Tacon 2030-26T Brushless Motor 3500KV for 1/16 1/18 Car Trucks

I have this one. Bolts up with no mods, and I'm very happy with it (this is my first crawler, so I have no comparison). My cousin was surprised at the wheel speed - his bro in law's axial is "much slower"

Cogging isn't that bad, and I'm having a total hoot with it. Getting 20-30 minutes with a 2s 350Mah batt (HobbyWing 25a esc, $10 tower pro servo).
