I originally ordered a rock buster from ultimatehobbies.com after they ran out of stock and bumped the price to $120 and now they called me saying that they are going to substitute the max climber instead so I said ok. The max climber looks very similar to the rock buster other than some different colored components and the body. My question is why it costs so much more than the rock buster? does anyone know? Thanks

got this from tamiya

Loads Of Improvements
Now compatible with a standard lay down battery pack, the Max Climber does not require a special battery like its predecessor the Rock Buster. Other improvements on the Rock Buster include a 2mm thick black anodized aluminum frame and metal plated wheels featuring a shiny red finish. ......so pretty just a diffrent frame and it takes a stick pack

Not a different frame, they just colored it. The only difference is the fact it can take a stick pack. and th efunky body.

And the center diff is locked unlike the 1st version of the TLT, a.k.a. Rock Buster. The Max Climber has some added bonuses for those that plan to use the truck in stock form...... but if you are planning on building a crawler all you need are the axles and toss everything else.

A locked center diff? I never heard that, thats pretty cool then.

Re: Why does tlt-1 max climber cost more than the rock buste

cool, yes, worth the extra $$$ when you can do it at home for almost nothing, no

i would say if you plan to make a crawler go as cheap as you can cuz you aint gonna use most of the stuff anyway.

I heard that the axles are beafier on the new version, or if you order replacement parts if you break your axles shafts.

I have the Climber and it was not locked. The Red wheels are about to go. I really don't see much of a differance other than the stick pack thing. Thats why I got it. I have around ten pack sitting around so why not.

Center diff is not locked on my climber either. And if I remember correctly, someone said the axles dont narrow on the outside end behind the ball, that is NOT the case either. The stick pack is the only functional difference I see.
