Why no Tamiya High Lifts?

Why don't I see a lot of discussion on the Tamiya High Lifts here? Is it because they are not good crawlers out of the box? For the scalers, is the frame not scale enough? Or is it just too damn expensive for what you get ($400-ish and NO bearings!)?

A quick search popped up 12 pages of hits. Go to advanced search, enter "High Lift" into the Search Title Only drop down and you're golden.

Thanks. I guess i should have qualified and said "recent" discussions. I guess it's like any other hobby, the latest and greatest get all the attention.
 
Well, in truth... If I had a choice between a Toyota Hilux High Lift and my current build, I'd shoot for the Hilux...

This is why I am planning to track down a decently priced used Hilux for my next scaler build. I'm in too deep with this current build to drop it now.
 
Theres a sticky on the 1.9 main page all about the F350 high lift. Thats more then the rest of the scale truck builds and tips for them have.....LOL "thumbsup"
 
I was looking at a high lift before I bought my trailfinder, I went with the trailfinder because it was more scale and its more metal than plastic. I think you don't see many because so many people on here build crawlers from scratch with parts from here and there. The possibilities are endless with all of the different axles, transmissions, frames, etc

I still wouldn't mind having a high lift too.
 
Ive had a high lift for about 3 years now. Stock they do suck at crawling. Mine is in its 3rd phase with ax10 tranny and axles going in right now.
 
Mostly there just lacking on the "bang for the buck" side of things. Aside from that the axles have a ridiculously large pumpkin that doesn't look scale at all. As for durrability I would take an axial based rig any day. You can find axial parts in any decent hobby shop in the world.... good luck finding any tamiya parts "thumbsup"
 
I've had my hilux for about 4 years now and would'nt want to get rid of it. I've had it dialed in for 2 years now and with leafsprings it will keep up with any other 2.2 or 1.9 scaler. I think the hilux and hilift are great still for the crawling world and with a little modding you can have a great trail rig"thumbsup"

Thats funny because i've never had a problem finding something for the tamiya's.
 
There's nothing at all wrong with the High Lift, it's simply that they are rather expensive compared to other kits, the F-350 has been around the block a few times, and people are interested in trying newer and potentially cheaper things. The biggest boon to the High Lift series was the Hilux and Tundra bodies. We'll probably see another body come out on the chassis in a year or two.
The only shortcomings are the aforementioned large differential (although the locking option is kind of cool) and the chassis is less scale than say the SCX10 series. If you like F-350's, the Tundra, or a Hilux, build one of these kits. Parts availability for Tamiya will always be good.
As for popularity, part of the game is to build something that is unique and that no one else has. As others have said before, once kits become dime a dozen, folks move on to new challenges.

I think it's the cost that drives people away. I got one cheap from a guy who needed money, I loved that truck. before I even ran it, I replaced the 3spd. with a R2 trans. If you can get one used for cheap I'd say go for it but if you're starting from scratch get a Honcho or Trailfinder.

That's my old Hilift Hilux in my avatar, I wish I never sold it.
 
Highlifts are not cheap,I should know I have the F350,Hilux,And the Tundra Highlifts and they where not cheap,and now I have a Bruiser and a King Hauler.thats why they are just not cheap like the other scaler out their but like someone else said I would never trade them for 10 honchos
