WI boarder state parks

A few parks that might be worth looking into, if anyone wants to check them out. Make sure you talk to the park rangers to make sure they would be ok with our groups and trucks in their parks. Each state park can be different, depending on the local management.

Interstate park, on the WI side.

Here is the PDF map, you can see they also have a pothole trail, and a trail called horizon rock trail. Hard to tell how far the parking lots are from the rocky sections from the map though.

Willow river state park, just north of Hudson. From the google satillite images, the water fall looks pretty big... Maybe to big though. And the rest of the park seems to be wooded, or grassy fields.

Those are the only two parks that look promising, and local for us in the metro area. Hard to say if either will have the style of rock we are after, feel free to check them out though

We should recon the Wiscomsin side of Taylors Falls for potential crawl spots. In fact Willow River could also have some nice rock formations.

Reason #5 Why Wisconsin Sucks

I just checked the email for our old website. Aric (Rex) sent us this. He contacted the rangers at Willow State Park about us crawling there. This was their response:

Hello, Aric,

Aaron and I were both unfamiliar with your sport, so your link was helpful. As a general rule, remote controlled devices have not been permitted in Wisconsin State Parks. The reason is that they can be a safety concern (from speed and control issues) and well as noisy, disturbing other visitors. It appears that your vehicles would not be very objectionable from those perspectives.

Since your proposed use of these vehicles is not a "routine, ongoing use", it would require a Recreational Use License. If you decide you are interested, I can mail you a form to the address you provide. An insurance policy is required with liability limits of $500,000 per occurrence including $300,000 for bodily injury, including death, and $25,000 property damage. Other details are listed on the form.

Willow River State Park does not appear to be particularly well suited for your use, based on your request. There are no rocky areas which are close to roads and no assessable (for disability purposes) trails leading to the remote rocky areas that do exist. There are rocky areas near the base of the cliffs, but you would need to travel some distance on steep grades to get to them.

Don't rule out the WI side of Interstate Park. It is different people running it as far as I know.

Should I email them too, or just wait till spring and go there?

I think it might be better to get a few guys together and go there with our rigs, and show the rangers just how little we would affect the other park goers.

I think there are some awesome crawl spots on that side I spent lots of time there as a kid with my Dad, he painted and did a lot of work based on that Park. I bet I spent the better part of three summers in that park back in the early 60s.
