WTF Tony Stewart

I cant believe he's racing at Watkins Glenn today. Early on his team said he would not race but I just saw a video maybe an hour ago that said he was going to race. He supposed to be holding a press conference at some point this afternoon before the race.

Sad state of affairs but you just dont step foot on the track, period.

I wouldn't be surprised if criminal charges are filed against Tony.

Sad, sad, sad...

MSD is spot on. You steer dirt cars with the throttle. It did look/sound like he blipped the throttle but with the intention of getting the rear of the car to the left of the racer on the track. Just looks like too little too late.

At least thats what Im seeing.

It's an impossible call. I've tried to about ten times now.

I'm sure criminal charges will be filed. Best argument is that throttle blip. Doesn't matter if that's how you steer a car on dirt. Won't sit well with anyone. It's not sitting well with me and I could give a flying **** about Tony Stewart, or this 20 year old kid.

For me, if Stewart is racing today, he has a clear enough conscious to be able to do that. Or he really truly is an asshole.

Edit: okay then.

I have raced everything from karts to late models on dirt in the past and at no point have I ever had the inclination to exit the car (or kart) and run onto the track into traffic. It was not a wise move on Kevin's part. The only reason to run out of the car that way is if it is on fire. The part that I can't understand is why Kevin was running at Tony's car. Tony wasn't responsible for the initial spin (please correct me if I'm wrong about this as it's a little tough to tell). I had the privilege of interviewing Tony years ago when I worked for Racing America (an east coast racing newspaper) and I feel like I can say I know Tony better than most fans. He is very passionate about racing and after his crash at Iowa last year the fact that he was back behind the wheel of a sprint car should not be a surprise. I pray for the Ward family in their time of need. I also pray for Tony and his family during this time.

Without a doubt Stewart fishtailed as he hit the gas...under a yellow...with a competitor directly beside his vehicle. I dispute the knee jerk response "that's racing" because I've been following motorsports since I was a child...that's Stewart making a bad move most likely due to his emotional state...and that was totally uncalled for from a professional driver. No need to hit the gas. No need to do anything but avoid the guy at all costs. Should have been circulating down low.

I doubt anything will come of it judging from the police response. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/mrdEdjcQCtI?list=UUglVNKDLniFrF2y-M504Lwg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Never been that angry before? It's a bad place to be. How about if there was an incident many laps prior and the kid was just stewing in his car for a couple/few laps. Then the spin, no matter who instigated it. Kid blows up, and then...

All the while a hot head is reacting.

It's bad for everyone.

After reading all this, watch this again.

I agree Elmo, looks like Stewart didn't touch him, but maybe pushed him out. Racing.

The blue and white car before Tony had to swerve out of the way.

Looking again, and again, and again, I can't help but think that Tony was trying to "blip steer" out of the way knowing how close that kid had gotten to his car, and at a moments notice tried to not clip him with the big as$ rear tire. (or just speed past him no knowing what he might try.
What would you do if all of a sudden you see a kid out on the track when you're coming around a corner???
From what I could see, it could have been a worse impact had he not tried to blip past him,,,, none the less, the same result.

It's just a sad misfortunate accident that Tony will have to live with, as well as both families.

The blue and white car before Tony had to swerve out of the way.

True, but he had clear view of the track,, we don't know what Tony's view was or where he focus was either. It very well could have been the "blue" car that hit him from what I saw from the video. It's like the kid had no fear of death and thought he could stop traffic to throw his tantrum aimed at Tony.

I agree Krakker 100%. I've watched this many times, as I seem to care.

And I completely understand the, what Tony's view thing is, because I can be very narrow focused on my racing game and not see other things around me.

If that kid was like me, at 20, no fear. But only because I've not been hurt bad enough yet. He went out bad. C'mon, circle tracking with Tony Stewart? And you did that?

I don't know what cell phones you guys have, but my cell doesn't record video in low light for shi*. So saying that track is to dark to see this guy, imo is garbage. The video is totally clear and across the track from the guy recording it. Tony was up way to high and the 20 yo guy should've never been out of his car. Looks like Tonys intent was to scare this kid with a near miss, but unfortunately didn't work out that way. If it were a normal person driving Tonys car, 9 outta 10 times they would be looking at 5 years for vehicular manslaughter. This video is just to incriminating to believe its was just a "tragic accident". This is a classic case of 2 hot heads that both loose there temper and then proceed to make some very poor decisions.

Tony Stewart could be the biggest dick on the planet, but I don't care. If you purposely step out into traffic the blame is all yours. He got out, moved towards the infield once, saw TS coming around, and moved further towards the infield again to get in his path. Actions have consequences.

I agree...

To say Stewart had a clear view of the track is sketchy at best. If you have looked at sprint cars or have ever attended. race, you will know that they have probably the least visibility of most race cars. Between the safety restraints as well as the way the interior is designed... (Big ass shield that covers the right side of the drivers head. The same side the deceased approached from) I doubt anyone would have seen this kid until he was right up in front of them.
