I am very new to this sport and am looking to get an MOA truck to use for rock crawling. My son has an Everest 10 and we had a ton of fun this past weekend rock crawling on large slick rocks and I would like to get something a little better to join him. There is an Axial XR10 for sale locally and from the limited research i've done so far, it seems like this is the type of truck i'm interested in. Here are the specs on the truck:

-Tekin FXR
-Punk RC dig switch
-45T Tekin hand wound motors
-Vanquish motor plates
-1350 3 cell lipo
-one piece titanium tie rod
-2 sets of tires(Sedonas, white rovers)
-Nova foams
-Futaba 3PM-MX radio
-Hitec HS-7954SH metal gear servo
-Triton EQ charger
-Tool Box/carrying case for parts
- other miscelaneous parts

This is all the info given on the truck. Everything looks to be in good condition, but i'm no expert. They are asking $250 for this rig. Is that a reasonable price for this setup or am i asking for trouble with limited parts support? Thanks

For the price I would buy it, the rig itself might be a bit intimidating at first given the long gone support but there is still people on the forums here that can answer any questions.

So I spoke to the seller and he said the rear axle is worn out and slips under heavy load. He said when he bought the truck he replaced the 36T-48P Final Gear and he suspects that it is worn out again and needs replacing. I see that gear is still available, but the final drive gear is not available in the machined version. I would assume if the final gear is worn, the the final drive gear is probably as well. I have been reading up as much as i can on this issue and it seems that some say the axle housing can be the culprit and to replace it. However, the housings are not available anywhere.

Knowing this info, is this still a good purchase? I would hate to be replacing broken gears all the time as the cost adds up quickly. It seems the gears probably all need replaced.

For $250 I would buy it. You can get RC4WD gears from RPP right now and if your not competing they will (depending on how you drive) last you a very long time. I have a set that is going on 3+ years. Stock cases are good. Just use the brass inserts wherever you can so you can tighten down the case halves nice and tight. That will help the gear skipping. You can also shim up the final gear. This is what I do and I very rarely get the gear skip. Parts are still out there. Just gotta search high and low."thumbsup"

So I'm probably blind but I can't find the gear set on RPP from rc4wd. Theres a set on there from hot racing and some axial gears. I've read the HR gears are hit and miss? Thanks for the input.

Dang. I guess we missed the boat. They must have sold out.

My two cents : take the 250 you are thinking about spending on an admittedly worn out vehicle w limited to no support , add the $$ you may be spending on keeping up with the kid , and buy a nice kit. You will be ahead in the long and short run

XR10 is a solid crawler. I have 2. The stock gears are crap! Go with a set from RC4Wd or Hot Racing. I have 3 sets of HR gears and have never had a problem. Replace the top shaft bearing with a bushing it wont fail like a 5x8 bearing. If the motor plate has the 5x8 bearings replace them with a high quality set or bushings also. I use Traxxas 5x8 bushings, they are easy to get and cheap. There is a rumor flying around that the XR10 is coming back. If its true? Your guess is as good as mine. The plastic axle housings are getting hard to find but can be had on ebay if you keep an eye out. Good lu k:mrgreen:
