XV 01 parts package

Battery should be fine.

Chargers can run off AC (plug it into the wall) or DC (car battery or power supply). The Power Supply they mention is another big box that plugs into the wall which your charger then plugs into:

HobbyKing 540w 100~120v Power Supply (13.8v~18v - 30amp)
(no idea about the specs, link is just to show you what a power supply looks like)

The first charger you mention is AC/DC (will run off either). Second one is DC only so you'll need the power supply.

So this is what I have come up with, please weigh in with your thoughts.

Car XV01:- 58528 Subaru Kit

Motor-Esc Combo:- Speed Passion Reventon S Brushless ESC Metal Black Program Box w/ Competition Motor V3.0S 3500KV Combo (FREE SHIP)

Servo:- Savox 1251 MG

Battery:- Turnigy nano-tech 4200mah 2S2P 40~80C Hardcase Lipo Pack

Charger:- E3 2S, 3S LiPo Balance Charger AC Input (Australia Standard) - Hobby Habit

TX/RX:- HobbyKing HK-GT2B 3CH 2.4GHz Transmitter and Receiver w/Rechargable Li-ion Battery

So after this I need a servo saver and Slipper clutch, anything else?

Thanks again

I don't think the slipper will be necessary right off the block, but get the toe blocks in metal. Part number XJ... something. :ror:

The charger doesn't show any details in that link you provided. Any idea what rate it charges at. Yes, it will charge your battery, but it could take a long time if it's a low spec rate.

As Turtle said, the metal toe blocks will be the first upgrade you need, to prevent future breakages. Read all our threads and you'll see......

Personally, I've never ran anything other than standard kit servo savers with my Futaba servos, but depends on the servo and your driving style, (and maybe luck), I guess,

Hi to another Aussie RC Rally driver (to be) :)

Some speed passion ESC's have a reputation for letting out the smoke, so be careful there! That said, the 13.5 combo is probably about a good point for price and speed Speed Passion Reventon Stock Club Race Brushless System Combo w/Yeah Racing 13.5T Motor #CB0624 . I was going to go the same thing before I found a cheap 2nd hand system that did what I wanted. Also, the motor and ESC are a fair way apart on the XV-01, you may need to get a longer motor or sensor cable on a sensored unit.

Also, I decided that as there was not much in the way of an online home for RC Rallying in Australia I started a facebook group! https://www.facebook.com/groups/233873110111909/

How wary should I be about the esc, tried finding reviews but no luck?
Would the longer cable be available at LHS?

Will check out your facebook page when I get home, work has blocked facebook,:lmao:

No problems I'm aware of with the ESC's. I have the same one in my stock Touring Car and they're pretty popular over this neck of the woods.

Yes, your LHS should carry various length of cables. You'll need at least 200-250mm I reckon.

I think it was the revinton series that I was hearing about problems, but all the problems I heard about were in the UK in 1:10 buggies, so it may have been the estra strain put on them by these vehicles perhaps? I've not heard of many dramas locally. One person I know of had a couple die, but he seems to have bad luck with such things LOL

HA! you beat me to it Turtle.
Thats not the part Turtle was talking about. The parts he is talking about are the JJ parts that hold the arms to the chassis. There are 2 larger pcs.Tamiya XV-01 Aluminum Suspension Mount XJ #54379, and 4 seperate pcs. They are different front to back.Tamiya XV-01 Separate Suspension Mounts (1XJ), ,(54376) and Tamiya XV-01 Separate Suspension Mounts (1XM), ,(54377). I haven't broke those parts yet but I can see it happening on mine soon. I have some carbon reinforced ones for spare.

Sorry I missed your post before. Thats not the part, this is:

Same front and rear (so getting 2 is a good idea):
For XV-01 - Yeahracing - Yeah Racing Aluminum Suspension Mount (1XJ) For Tamiya XV-01 #XV01-019-XJBU

That is the number 1 part prone to breaking. After you replace those you will be much better off.

Good luck and have fun with the car. And keep us updated. "thumbsup"

Cheers Turtle. I will do a build thread some time after Christmas. Yes I have to wait that long. :)

Thanks Digger, I will purchase all when the time comes but for now the wallet is a little too light. "thumbsup"

a 7.2 volt battery is a NICAD of NIMH. Old technology that really doesn't have a place in 90% of rc anymore. LIPO is the way to go. The voltage doesn't drop off over time, provides consistent and longer run times, generally charges faster and is reasonably safe. There have been instances of melt downs or fires, but technology has really advanced since we started using lipo 5-6 years ago. And honestly is something that seldom happens unless you are really trying.
