Yeti Rock Crawler?!?!

Hi guys, I own an Axial Wraith and I'm currently thinking of getting a
Yeti. Is the Yeti a good rock crawler? I know it's designed to be a rock rock racer which I love, but I would also like to go do some slow crawling on some rocks.

My yeti is geared as much to crawling as I can make it. Underdrive gears, locked front diff, and all the major steering components upgraded. With that said, my bone stock wraith that I've just built is already considerably more capable in the rocks. The wraith has a much better steering setup, more precise and more steering angle. It has a narrower track width and I've found gets hung up far less on the axles because of this. Of course the chassis is also about 2x higher than the yeti. The IFS does OK in the rocks, but the rear sway bar limits the articulation quiet a bit.

Even with my yeti geared almost as much towards crawling as I can get it, I still feel like its around a 60/40 (high speed to rock work) where as the wraith I feel is pretty close to 50/50 out of the box.

I'm setting up my Yeti to compete in Class 3 this year. Geared at 12/68 on a 2900kv Sensored Motor. Gives me oodles of low end. Locked front, all Vanquish steering upgrades, etc. The long belly is the only thing that concerns me. That said, a properly setup Wraith or custom rig will destroy it.

The yeti can crawl pretty damn good actually, you need to put in the soft sway bar, and some good tires never hurt. My wraith can crawl better because of the steering and chassis, but my yeti can get it done. And for my is more fun to drive. If you set it up right,it's all up to driver from there

Thanks for all the input guys. With what you all have said, I think may just stick with the wraith again. I want a great crawler which I currently trying to make the one I have into. I guess I'll have to play with gearing and motor selection for my next one. I'd like to make it to were it can keep up with some SC trucks. Do you guys thinks that's possible?

I'd like to add that the yeti is a wonderful truck. With enough wheel speed it CAN crawl, but without the speed will often get hungup on the chassis. The key to the yeti is to keep momentum. If you can do that, assuming you're not "vanquished out" it will slide over most everything and be on its way.

But for slow rock crawling alone, it is an inferior design. Love them both

I took my Yeti up a mountain here in Maine. It was fairly ragged terrain. I was able to go everywhere that the guys I was with could. And when it came to rock bouncing over obstacles, the low slung style and COG made it over things the Wraiths couldn't.
You certainly lose out in areas previously mentioned, but overall the Yeti is quite competent.
I locked my steering, front diff, and stiffened the springs a bit.
