My FJ's: Pics

Well.....I am on track to having my FJ80, FJ60 and FJ40 by the end of the year. I picked up my FJ80 last night. If you have a FJ40 that you're looking to sell, let me know. It has to be white by the way.

I know! There are a bunch. There are the FJ50's as well, that were never sold in the US etc, etc, etc.
I just want an 80, 60 and 40.
Both of these rigs will end up on 35's. The 80 can handle 35's with no mods to the body. I will be taking my sawzall to the 60 to make room for the Good Years!

JamisonWorkshop 08-03-2005 09:17 AM

Nice. Does the FJ80 have the electric lockers in it?
I dont have a 40 for you, but I do have a top and doors. ;-)
Good luck on the hunt.

Goodyears?!?! Come awn, put some 35" Krawlers or swampers, or at least a BFG AT or MT on there. Not the MTurds!!!

No lockers. I'll do ARB's.

I may do Krawlers on the 60 cause it will be a trail rig only.

JamisonWorkshop 08-03-2005 09:48 AM

They only Krawlers they sell in 35's are the blue labels which suck in my opinion.
I ran a buddies Jeep in Neuroc comp with them and would have been better off with my old 36 swampers. They just did not bite at all.

I would stick with Interco. IMO.

rckjeep 08-03-2005 09:48 AM

Digs, if you need advice on stuff let me know. I've got two words for your 60, SPRING OVER. I saw a 60 SOA on 35's aand that thing was pretty amazing. If you pay me I'll drive out there do the SOA for you. I can build the brackets, traction bar, shock towers, bumpers whatever you want.

Jamison you are nuts! The Krawlers are an awesome tire in any size. They are equal to 2.2 moabs IMO.

here's some of my work

Got Rocks? 08-03-2005 09:55 AM

a snorkel would look cool they are about $230 though

JamisonWorkshop 08-03-2005 10:09 AM

37 and 39 comp compound red label Krawlers now that is a different story. They are the best tire out to date. But from my experience 35 blue label just dont compare. You cannot expect the same results from them. Apples and oranges.

Haha. Thanks but I doubt I need any advice. I've been wheelin and buildin prolly longer than most of any of you guys have been alive. Have had 14 different Jeeps, built from mild to super modified. '48 Willys and Cheros to new TJ's. I've had Toyotas and Rovers and other stuff. I've built just about any type of part, all the way to building my own Danas and Ford axles. did my own spring over on a Willys and a YJ....and by the looks of it, the 60 will be an even easier job. Heck....the spring pads are already on the top of the axles! Limited welding and limited parts! Thanks anyway RCKjeep!

Well....I'm glad these won't be comp rigs.

amen! I've been really impressed with my MTR's, but I drive mine on the street around town and 200 miles to the trail. Swampers just don't cut it. On the highway.

NOt to mention that a 35 Swamper weighs nearly 1 million pounds. :flipoff:

New Fj80 owner

Hey Digler, I just purchased a 1993 Fj80 for $4,000. Been wanting one for about 10 years. The perfect vehicle to haul to family in. It has the full locker package as well. The reason I am Typing this is to ask a Question since you seem to be a 'cruiser guru. Both rear sliders leak into the back seat area. Is there an easy fix or do I need to get new seals. Already cleaned the tracks and it still leaks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

DirkDigler 08-03-2005 11:32 AM

this is my real first venture into FJdome. I love them. They are one of the toughest and most well built rigs in the world. What other gas engine on earth can you get well over 300,000 miles out of with only regular maintenance? You can easily get 500,000 before a rebuild!!!! That is just plain cool!
I'm not a Toyo guru just yet but I'm getting there.
From what I understand....and have heard...and looking at my rear sliders, they all seem to leak a bit, even when almost new. You could try some new seals....let me know if it works!
A 93 for $4000!!! That is a great deal. DOHC is nice to have on the old 3F. Is the rig pretty rough for that low of a price?

mulchman 08-03-2005 11:47 AM

The rig is in real good shape. Has 180,000 miles on it. As you said they are the toughest vehicles made. Where else can you get axles bigger than a 1 ton and still carry the whole family. Also, the cruisers had factory lockers way before that Jeep vehilcle. What was it's name, "foolicon" or something. I have been looking at this cruiser for 3 years. The owner had a heart attack and had to quit driving. His loss, my gain. Anyhow thanks for the quick reply. As soon as I figure out how to put pics up on the site I will.

JamisonWorkshop 08-03-2005 11:51 AM

Well if you havent found Ih8mud.com yet that is the place to be for Cruiser info.
Keep you busy for a while.

I am with you on Toy engines. That is why it is all I have. My trail truck has 220,000 miles and runs like a top.

When I got the 40. It was all rusted under the engine compartment hadn't run in 10 years. I got new plugs wires and stuff, rebuilt the carb for 15 bucks. and it runs like a champ too. Who knows how many miles are on it. probably 2-300,000.
Couldnt believe it.

and yes swampers and pavemet dont mix. but MTR's are for my tow rig, you wont find them on my trail trucks. dont cut it in the muck. Rocks maybe.

My 39 swamper iroks only weigh 10 pounds more than my 36 swampers did.
Weight is more traction down low and that is what they make 300M for.
Go for the beef. :)

mulchman 08-03-2005 12:19 PM

Digler, you have got to look at the MAN-A-FRE.COM website. The 4plus suspension equipped FJ80 is just awesome to behold. They just don't tell you how much lift is on it. Just that the bracket kit makes it possible to lift it higher.

TJeeperMan 08-03-2005 01:59 PM

Didn't you just say saturday that you were going to get a FJ80? You work fast! Hey as long as your in the mood for buying get me an FJ40 too. :)

Hurry up and build one of them tinker toys so you can come play in the rocks with a real off road vehicle.... :)

Will 08-03-2005 02:40 PM

Cum'on Digler dont get GOOD FOR A YEAR :-P

Dude have you wheeled blue dot krawlers outside of heavy mud before??? Or DD'ed on them? BigTex here on the board DD'ed his TJ on them, still runs them, has bout 65% tread left and bought the tires 2 almost 3 years ago. They work period. Yes they are no red dot, but damn, they sure as h3ll work plenty good for any need. And given just how proud Goodgear is of the Mturds, may as well buy a real tires, and get 35" Krawlers!

But staying on topic, Dirk get to fabbin fool, and let's wheel! That is after I get everything lined up for that scout I found. You gonna roadtrip it back with me from Cali sucka?!

Hows the belt??? ;-)

JamisonWorkshop 08-03-2005 07:22 PM

Yes I have run blue labels in comp setting. I dont do mud.
All I am saying is for offroad I would rather have a swamper. If you are driving on road go for em. They will serve you well.
