| Calling all scale guys.................
Ok I have been wanting to do a particular build for a few years now and I have so many questions. I'm not a complete noob, nor do I have a ton of money, another words no room for costly error of wrong parts and such. I am calling on you guys to help me through my first "real" build. First thing I need to know is how wide are the Tamiya king haler front and rear axles? Yes I'm doing a "tow" rig. 2: Who is the best guy for body work on hard bodies? 3: where can I get scale mirrors and roof lights for my rig? Lastly what would be the best (most scale, best working, most dependable) rig to start with. The look I am going for is a regular cab 80's chevy 3500 HD street driven dually. want a leaf sprung rig and no I will not have a GRU I plan to run a stock 27T so I can have a little wheel speed. We will start there I know I want a dually and I am pretty set on a straight axle 2wd set up. I am wanting to do a clod bodied build. only body mod that I want that I cannot do is the roof filled and a cowl hood, with a lot of king cab bits added here and there. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Last edited by bent; 05-01-2012 at 02:58 AM. |

Well, you have the wheels, so the king hauler is 7.09" wide, with those wheels on the axles. Might find some scale parts at GardenTrucking: GardenTrucking: King Hauler-Tamiya |

7.09 is the overall width according to the kit. I would assume the outside edge of the front tires is even with the rears? Listed near the bottom of the tower page for it, here: TowerHobbies.com | 56301 Tamiya 1/14 King Hauler Tractor Truck Kit So could you measure from the outside of the tires, to the inside flanges or hex faces? |

No I cannot I do not have anything yet. I am planning everything out right now. I have a extremely strict budget. The pictures show what I want and am planning to use. I don't like the look of wheels sticking way out on a rig that's why I am after the measurements. Ty for the link on towers I looked and didn't find anything on there for what I was wanting to do.

| Re: Calling all scale guys................. I'm a little confused, your 2nd post(with pics) says this is what you have, and then you state the quote above. If I got this right, your outside dimensions for the front axle/tires needs to be less than 6.8in, to tuck under. Since you're doing a duelly, then the outside edge of the inner rear tires needs to match the front...less than 6.8in. The overall width of the rear would be covered by the dually fenders, right so far? To determine the axle width you need, you need to know the offset of the rims. If your looking for scale looks, I think a TRex44 would work for the rear axle, but without knowing the wheel offset, I can't say for sure. For the front, you may have to do some custom fab work. If you know for sure that those are the rims/tires you want to use, then get them now...it will make this alot easier. You can also search here for some good info. |

Yes I know for a fact that that those are the tires and wheels that I want to use. They are the default Tamiya king hauler wheels. I do not have the hands for fab work any more. I can barely type proper much less fab anything up. I am not using a dually bed either I am planning to use more of a Ranch Style bed with skirts. (see the pic) As far as the comment about being confused The pics above show what I want. I have nothing yet. I do not want the wheels on my rig to stick out like these, nor do i want the knobby off road look. What would be a good chassis? Bruiser? King Hauler? |
