Default Yotapane's fj40 aka"buttercup"

I've always wanted a hardbody fj40 scaler, I've built many lexan bodied fj's. No matter how many details or custom touches I added I still wasn't happy.

Having missed out on the few Aoshima-skynet bodies that have come up for grabs in the last 4 years I figured I'd never have a chance at building my FJ..
Fast forward to last week, after drooling over Chip Cross, Blakeski, DessertRC, Sally1800,Die-Laughing , Dready , MaddogMaddigan and Unimogger's builds I told myself "the next chance I have at one of these fj bodies I'm going to have one, no matter the cost"(which anyone who knows me knows I'm a cheap sunova&$@)
Tried to get my old aoshima body that had been hacked up by another member which took me a few weeks to get what looked like an fj but would never be perfect, didn't work out...
Then, Mr Paul...DessertRC himself texts me

I recieved the body at work yesterday
Got the body mounted to my tf2 chassis
Took these crappy pics
Build specs so far:
Tf2 chassis
Aoshima skynet fj40 body
Rc4wd 1.55 stamped steel wheels (reversed for wider offset)
Rc4wd 1.55 rock stompers

Feel free to tell me what you guys think,
I plan to get the chassis dialed in and get some firm CI foams for it as it's very top heavy, I also need to get the leaf springs dialed
Plan to keep the OG look and get a nice roll cage built
Big thanks to DessertRC and all my buddies who put up with my constant questions and ideas...

I really like the way these look on the TF2 chassis, it looks a bit high in the front to me though.

I Definently have some work to do on the suspension, the rear sits where I want it, the front is way to high and the axle is too far forward for what I was going for,

Very nice yota! Desert rc is a good guy. Very cool that you ended up landing this very rare body in pristine condition. I really like it.......just needs to come down some.

Thanks bud, as soon as the kids are sleeping I'll be in the garage, fronts way too high and the rear is way too soft

This should be pretty cool. I really like the cheap truck fj from back in the day personally.

Nice aquisition! Since this is 1/8th scale, 1.9's would be more appropriate for the scale appearance, imo. Aoshima/Skynet could really pull some money in if they would re-run these kits.

Thanks! I'm sure the 1.9s would be more to scale mathematically but I've yet to find a set of 1.9 stamped steel wheels with that 70s look, I'm hoping I can get the look of an OG fj with the reversed steelies and big bias ply look, in the late 70s they didn't have 37s mounted on 20s
I'm hoping it can bring down the front and get the 1.55s tucked in as is it was a stock fj with wider tires and wheels ..

I have always felt the same way you did about these hard shell Toyotas but I haven't been able to push my self over the edge yet lol. I think the look your going for will be really cool, If I ever end up with one I will go for tall and skinny look. And if you guys get together and do an all skynet yota trail run Please, Please get us a video!!!!

How about something like these?

And you could stuff them into the same tires you already have.

I think someone did the hub caps, that were in the original kit, on a Hilux.

That should make you happy. It makes me happy just looking at the pictures. How about "Buttercup" for a name?

Thanks for the name! It's perfect

I'm considering putting the axles above the leafs to get the ride height where I want it, other than machining a block to cup the axle tubes and using u-bolts is there any other downside than getting hung up by the u bolts?

And a HUGE thanks to mr noob.....cannot tell you all how exited I am to get this rig built, and thanks again for all the feedback, without all the friends and great people of rcc this build wouldn't be possible
