Weapon's Hilux trail truck mattzilla chassis I have been collecting parts for this for a couple of months now. I have almost everything so I can get started. we will see how these axles go. http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps0d64028a.jpg this transmission isn't my first choice but its fairly low profile and its a 2 speed. plus its been sitting on my shelf for a year. we will see. http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps822a7ccd.jpg body and dinky cap, also have a dinky v1 interior to go in. http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps5d45441f.jpg aaah the chassis. looks like a nice piece, seems sturdy enough. Didn't have too much fuss with links, right now its roughed in with axial longs on lower and axial shorts on the top. I will replace them all with titanium or stainless. http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps04217b30.jpg http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps0df731fc.jpg http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...psd7c13e3c.jpg Waiting on a GCM transfer case. http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...psc3183106.jpg http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...psb8d6c67e.jpg that's it so far. thanks for looking |
Re: Weapon's Hilux trail truck mattzilla chassis Nice project , in the first pic there which straight axle adapters are those, the aluminu Ones? |
Re: Weapon's Hilux trail truck mattzilla chassis Thanks! yes they are, lhs had them. |
Re: Weapon's Hilux trail truck mattzilla chassis Nice, they seem like they are hard to find, I'm in Vancouver BC and no one had them, but it always seems like when u need a certain part for a build you can never find it lol |
Re: Weapon's Hilux trail truck mattzilla chassis pretty lucky, the LHS here is a very well stocked place. |
Nice! |
Re: Weapon's Hilux trail truck mattzilla chassis Looking good, just not sure of the placement of the battery, seems like a bunch of weight in the back to me.. I'd try and place that battery in the middle more, unless your just trail riding then it should be ok..just my 2cents.. |
Re: Weapon's Hilux trail truck mattzilla chassis Its not there yet just roughing stuff. Still have a bunch to do before I decide where its going besides that trans is pretty heavy. Yes, I don't really run on rocks they scratch the paint too much. |
Re: Weapon's Hilux trail truck mattzilla chassis I really like the way the RC4WD landies look on this truck. Sits too high still I will adjust the height after I know where it wants to sit loaded. http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...pse3494bdb.jpg It looks like the hub design might allow for a little more offset with a bit of machining. http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps3ffa5139.jpg change of plans that transmission and shift servo is too big to fit up front with an interior, so center trans it is. I will have to build something else with the GCM transfer case. Layout should be something like this. transmission shifts good, I bought it broken a year ago so it has brand new gears in it, and its been sitting greased waiting. http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...pse59a5c86.jpg Thanks for looking. |
Re: Weapon's Hilux trail truck mattzilla chassis Well nothing really groundbreaking happening here but I did make it a runner. Still have to plastidip my shift servo and clean up the wiring a little more. But I think I can safely work on the interior now. http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...psd06d512f.jpg http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...psb04246f2.jpg |
Re: Weapon's Hilux trail truck mattzilla chassis well I am at a stand still on my newest defender build (waiting for parts and inspiration) so I thought I would get some stuff done on this truck. please excuse the grainy pictures I think I dropped my iphone one too many times interior is all trimmed up, had to make a lot of allowances to have a 2 speed in this truck hopefully the servo cover doesn't stick out too bad once its painted. going to cover the patchwork floor with rubber floor mats http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...psb5c52df5.jpg http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...psc613d810.jpg the window holes are cut out and cleaned up. this stuff is really thin and the lines are pretty hard to follow when cutting but I think it turned out ok. http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...psc6560438.jpg fully assembled everything works. next up is bodywork and paint. http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps4720aca7.jpg http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps7a222f57.jpg thanks for looking |
Re: Weapon's Hilux trail truck mattzilla chassis You said you bought the transmission as broken, what actually failed? I see RC4WD has these for a pretty decent price and was concerned about durability since I haven't seen them mentioned often lately. Build looks great! |
Re: Weapon's Hilux trail truck mattzilla chassis one of the gears inside had split apart so it was loose on the shaft. I never really had any opportunity to use it as it was broken when I got it. It now has one run on it so its early to tell. But in my opinion rc4wd and durability don't really fit in the same sentence too well. I hear that's changing though. I probably wouldn't buy another one personally, I am just using it because it will sit on a shelf or go in the garbage if I don't. |
Re: Weapon's Hilux trail truck mattzilla chassis Very cool Yota :) |
Re: Weapon's Hilux trail truck mattzilla chassis cheers |
Re: Weapon's Hilux trail truck mattzilla chassis box of treats arrived today from RPP. Gearhead aluminum slots. Non beadlock but they look so cool and they are 1.55 I had to have them. http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps22953056.jpg |
Re: Weapon's Hilux trail truck mattzilla chassis updates? |
Re: Weapon's Hilux trail truck mattzilla chassis not finished yet as I haven't been doing a lot in the hobby last couple of years. but still picking away at a few things. http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...psqmihyhzd.jpg http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...psctho8nss.jpg http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...psakrq7rbt.jpg http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...pslycuxkpm.jpg http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...psr6yv4pto.jpg |
