Class 1 Willys pickup

Figured I better post up my new build on here. It’s going to be based off an SCX10 ii with a Toyzuki forward motor mount and OD t-case.

First of all, had to get rid of the paint on the chassis rails and make a flat delrin skid.
This rig is one of my inspirations....it’s not going to be very pretty.

Thanks guys.

A little more styrene work. Working on the tailgate details....

 Wow! I like it! Perfect stance and the rims and tires look awesome. Tires with a little smaller diameter might work better, clearance-wise.

Definately cool..."thumbsup"

I spy a bottle of some 'Smooth-On' products- making some molds of the body?

No, the Casting resin is for the ‘34 Ford body on my Class 2.

Got my new Berserkers mounted up. A bit smaller than the Growlers but I think they look proper.

Great looking little truck. Bet your glad you only had to do one of those WO logos. The Berserkers look really good on there. Looks more scale with the smaller diameter tires. It's amazing how something, so small, can make such big change in appearance. "thumbsup"

They really do! I wish the Berserkers came in 1.9. I'm going to have to look into LURC beadlocks for my SCX10 II build.

I’m back!

I don’t have much time to finish this up, about 2 weeks. Got a lot done the last couple days.

Got the roll bar fabbed up. The tabs on the bottom screw into a plate under the body. The rear bars tie into the shock mounts.

Made some half sliders that the body sits on.

Also made a simple single tube rear bumper.

Re: Class 1 Willys pickup

Those Berserkers have been sitting in my RPP shopping cart for a couple weeks now. Haven't seen any real reviews on them. Any word on initial touch feel compared to the 1.55 RBs?

The truck looks fantastic. Those are the narrowed beef tube axles correct? And all stainless tubing used?

The tires feel great. I have some 1.55 Rock Beasts, and these are pretty darn close to the same size. I had an issue with the beads on these, took awhile to mount them on the LockedUp beadlocks, but they are on. I have high hopes for these tires.....can’t wait to test them on the rocks!

The front axle is the narrowed Beef Tubes AR44, but the rear I did myself because the BT narrowed axles are impossible to find right now.

All my metal work is stainless except for the Axial chassis rails.

Got all the front steering links made, servo mounted and everything seems to clear.

A little flex shot......

Stuffs the rear tire real nice!

Re: Class 1 Willys pickup

Had the Berserkers been available when I ordered the 1.55 Rock Beats for my TF I might have changed my mind. Both are great looking tires, but I think the Berserkers look more street worthy.

I can't say enough how much I love this build and how I'm jealous of your patience and skill for fab work! "thumbsup" The pictures also reassure me that I'll love my LURC 1.55 Trail Ready wheels when they get here.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll pull the trigger on the Berserkers, they look great in your pictures.

I've been hunting for a narrowed AR44 for the front as well. Fairly confident I can do the rear but not so much on the front.

Great work on this truck. Will the body stay on the chassis? Curious on location of battery/electronics and their accessibility.

The body will stay on. The electronics will sit below the interior next the t-case. Battery will be somewhere down low, and I’ll have a spot to plug it in that’s easily accessible. Possibly a toolbox with a lid near the roll bar in the bed. We’ll see, I never have a definitive plan....it usually just happens.

Thanks man!

The front bumper had me stumped. It has to be at least as wide as the windshield, and I’m worried it’ll look funny. Here’s what I came up with last night....let me know what you think.

Re: Class 1 Willys pickup

I don't think that looks bad, you could almost run it down the fenders a hair more but the little nubs look just fine.
