RC4WD D90 forest version My version of the cool land rover D90! I installed rc4wd rims, painted with tamiya dark yellow, to match the roof, with pit bull growler 1.55 tires. I really like the look of these! Re: RC4WD D90 forest version It's changing slowly as it's being used... https://sthahome.files.wordpress.com...ha_2019_93.jpg https://stha.home.blog/ |

Re: RC4WD D90 forest version I tried different wheels (rc4wd Landies Vintage) and tires (rc4wd Interco Ground Hawg II 1.55), but it didn't work out great as the truck is heavy (almost 9lbs). https://sthahome.files.wordpress.com...a_2019_116.jpg https://stha.home.blog/ |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version Really love those rubber flares where have they come from? Beautiful landy nice clean look not over the top with Christmas tree decorations all over it |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version Thanks man! I tried to keep simple as if it was my own defender :) These flares are the rc4wd big boss flares. They work really well, no stress going between 2 rocks now! And I was bored repainting every ride because of the scratches...And I really like the look too. In this photo it was the last time I had the original flares, look at all these layers of paint. https://sthahome.files.wordpress.com...ha_2019_28.jpg |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version Cool thanks for the link. Very very nice rig man enjoy it |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version I did some adjustments, as well as some repaint on the d90 and went for a drive to see how all this was looking in real life... Can't wait to receive the new shocks I ordered as one of the original one is not working correctly (and from the beginning it never felt right, very sticky even after tons of mods). https://sthahome.files.wordpress.com...a_2019_137.jpg https://sthahome.files.wordpress.com...a_2019_136.jpg https://sthahome.files.wordpress.com...a_2019_135.jpg Driver shot, I love that view :) https://sthahome.files.wordpress.com...a_2019_138.jpg https://sthahome.files.wordpress.com...a_2019_134.jpg https://stha.home.blog/ |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version That's some real nice photography you got going on there |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version Thanks! I try to illustrate our RC adventures the best I can :) |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version This weekend we went exploring new places with the tiny trucks, and with the big one as well actually :) https://sthahome.files.wordpress.com...a_2019_139.jpg https://sthahome.files.wordpress.com...a_2019_141.jpg https://sthahome.files.wordpress.com...a_2019_140.jpg https://sthahome.files.wordpress.com...a_2019_142.jpg https://stha.home.blog/ |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version Nice mate what 1/1 do you drive? Your keeping the interest alive for a d90 build for me. I cant afford to blow a heap of nz dollars on a rc4wd kit so will build it up from aftermarket parts bit by bit mostly xtraspeed stuff. The body I hear is no knock off and is the very same body and rc4wd buys them and re boxes them up. I spent my childhood in the back of my uncle's series 2 landie so naturally have a soft spot for them. Have you got a mohave body by any chance? I'm wondering if those flares would go on one. My scx10 is just too wide for my hilux and its bugged me for 5 years lol but don't want to chop it up and put the usual big ugly flares on it |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version :) My real car is not as cool as a defender, but it brings us anywhere we need in the mountains. I drive a ford ranger 2011. I read about the xtraspeed vs boomracing vs rc4wd bodies differences. Unfortunately it's in french (too loong to translate, maybe google won't do something too weird...Différents Chassis Defender D90 : Boom Racing, Xtra Speed et Rc4wd Gelande 2) I don't have a mojave body, which I would love to have. Instead I bought a proline sr5 that I will use on my vaterra bronco after modifying the wheelbase. Hopefully it will work without going to crazy!!! No idea if the flares will fit on your body, but I'll put some on the sr5 body. First I need to find out why my d90 gets louder and louder every time I use it, especially while going very slow, sounds like a piece is loose somewhere... Then it will get new shocks and a new k44 front axle as the yota II has sooooo much play. |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version Good trucks those rangers there everywhere over here. That thread and other threads on that forum is the very reason I want to do an xtra speed build and a few chats with some you tubers too. It sounds like your having the axle issues that the French guys were so grumpy about. That's why they all buy the boom/xtra stuff its a lot better they are every bit as good as a k44 but half the cost especially for them in Europe. https://youtu.be/Q_1V5oYpRNw This guy has some nice videos. So if you don't feel like paying through the nose for rc4wd stuff there is other options. Also have you tried shimming the axles?. I like that proline body not sure why the dove tailed it though |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version Yep, rangers everywhere here as well, not the sexiest car but its small size is perfect to go almost anywhere! I debated a lot before getting the k44. The phat axle was my choice but the k44 fits directly the d90 and I always had a very service with rc4wd, I ordered their stuff... Yes, my axle is shimmed, no play at all. The issue I have is where the steering knuckle is screwed in the axle, tons of play is developing as you use the car. For what I can see the k44 looks much stronger and you can easily fix it if something goes wrong. Time will tell. I grabbed the proline body because I wasn't sure if a hard body on the ascender would not make the torque twist crazier than it is. I modified the chassis as much as I could, better but not perfect. More weight might be too much, even if I really like the mojave body. Also the ascender is used more as a "real" crawler compare to the d90. It crawls super easy, so less weight is a good idea in this case. |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version BTW, if you want to see the d90 in action, we have few videos here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo8...gJgJDJSqm9S1ew We plan on making more in the future, fun to do :) |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version I received a rc4wd k44 front axle today. Looks rad! Top quality, no play anywhere! Feels very strong. https://sthahome.files.wordpress.com...a_2019_145.jpg Need some grease here… https://sthahome.files.wordpress.com...a_2019_146.jpg No problem, marine grease is what I use with success on all our trucks! https://sthahome.files.wordpress.com...a_2019_147.jpg This a well used yota II axle that will soon be replaced. No more steering knuckles play! https://sthahome.files.wordpress.com...a_2019_148.jpg https://stha.home.blog/ |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version Subscribed :) How do you like the ascender? That's a nice axle is the gearing the same as the yota 2? |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version Cool! The 2 axles have the same gearing. I love the ascender, the opposite of the D90. One has to be driven like a real car, the other is just crazy! It goes everywhere. It's actually to easy so I challenge myself doing harder stuff when I use it ;) That's how it looks for now, but it will change, just need to find the longer links to extend the wheelbase to 313mm and I'll start the transformation. https://sthahome.files.wordpress.com...ha_2019_36.jpg https://sthahome.files.wordpress.com...ha_2019_38.jpg |

Re: RC4WD D90 forest version nice d90 may I ask what cage u r using and front bumper please |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version hey! Cage: for Xtra Speed Defender D90 Hard Body (XS-59666), #XS-59684 ,(XS-59684) by Xtra Speed Metal Roll Cage w/ Luggage Tray Super cheap but I had to modify it as it didn't fit. Front bumper: https://store.rc4wd.com/RC4WD-ARB-Fr...10_p_3475.html This fits perfectly. Have fun! |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version cool thanks |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version what make and colors did u use for the body |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version I used : Tamiya dark yellow, flat black & testor flat OD Before weathering: https://sthahome.files.wordpress.com...ha_2019_15.jpg https://stha.home.blog/ |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version Cool body did u have any trouble with your shocks |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version Thanks. Yes I had troubles with the shocks, they were super sticky, one is still like that. I removed the plastik o-ring that is inside the shocks to allow better movement which worked but they leaked... So I run them no oil, just a bit for lubrication. The car is so heavy that the stickiness is a big issue. My biggest complain is the fact that I couldn't find softer springs. That's why I bought some old man emu shocks, in 90mm to more flex, with different springs, still waiting some parts...Should arrive soon, I hope. Are you building a d90? |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version yeah sure am had one years ago and regret selling it but im copying yours how do u open the shocks to put oil I think im going to put proline shocks on mine"thumbsup" |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version cool! I have the proline on my vaterra, they work well and on't leak too much. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlQ9JwjnuAs&t=48s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQchbLdHrj0&t=65s |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version nice videos |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version Did u make your rock sliders or buy them and when u did rubber fenders did you cut out the arches on the original body |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version Rock sliders are from rc4wd, and yes you'll have to cut the original fenders! Take your time, it's a very, very hard plastic to cut. |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version Ok cool thank you I think I'm going to make my sliders |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version Sounds like a good idea! Any pictures to show your progress?! |
Re: RC4WD D90 forest version I will but I need to text them to you |
