And boom! I have a driveable chassis. Still got lotsa fine tuning and some corrections to make, but while the weather doesn't suck for a moment I thought I'd make use of the natural light and snap a few outdoor pics.

I'm not sure how I feel about this random-colored wiring, probably get after it with some black heat shrink...

I also ordered a new camera, so my pictures should look better soon. Though, these outdoor shots make me believe that 98% of the "problem" with cell phone pics is the lighting

Small update: I began the body work.

I had to wait on some proper body scissors cause this body is THICK! Got it mostly trimmed out and sat on the chassis

I don't like the look... Axles are way too wide for me. The rig would look more correct with a larger tire, but I've wanted these tires for years and I'm determined to make them work! I have a remedy coming in the mail to hopefully get this track width under control and make me love this build all over again

In some other good news, the weather is starting to get nice so I might be slingin paint soon

The front fender wells measure 7 1/16" across. The rear is slightly wider

Installed the Narrow Axles with Beef Tubes. Also Snipped a set of Vanquish knuckles off one of my other rigs, and installed narrowed front universals and rear shafts from Beef Tubes. The steering links and panhard are from RC4x4. Also stole some Beef Tubes Beef Tips (shock spring retainers) from another rig, and got started on installing a servo winch. I got rid of the EC3 connectors in favor of some deans knockoffs that are black while the soldering iron was out

My winch consists of a Hitec 645mg that's been gutted and wired with a HeyOK controller. The drum is an old sewing spool for now screwed to a round hitec arm.

I messed around with some SCX10iii wheel nut covers and tried to turn them down to fit, got frustrated at my lack of tools and placed an order...

I successfully destroyed the esc I planned to run. Plugged in a battery and it let the magic smoke out... all that was damaged was the ESC (and the air quality of my bedroom):ror: I must have done it in with the soldering iron

Got that all wired correctly, works like a charm! It wouldn't fit in the SCX box, so I mounted it to an old Axial servo plate. I still have lots of work to do on the wiring, and I need to clean up a few things on the chassis. I replaced my winch drum with a proper unit from Locked Up RC. I added some scale hubs to give the wheels a finished look, also from LURC. I routed the winch line through an old RC4WD Viking fairlead I had, and changed the front bumper in favor of a brace.

great going... as for the bumper the vs-104 plastic bumper looks similar to the bumper inspiration you got there. its cheap and comes with a matching tube rear bumper.

It's funny you say that, I actually bought a set from a buddy of mine and intended to run the front. Much to my amazement the width is absolutely perfect! (The rear is too wide, but meh.) The only "problem" I ran into was personal preference. The bumper stuck out too far forward for my liking with the stock SCX10.2 bumper mount. I may try to fabricate a mount to shove the bumper back towards the front of the body a half inch or so8)

Hey grob, did yo finish up this rig? As of your last post, it was looking pretty good man.

1.5 builds like this, have me wanting to dig into my Gen8 AXE and put smaller tires on it to try and make it looks more scale.
With the portal axles, it will truly not be scale, but I am hoping to get it closer. The wide axles will also pose a problem, but I'll see what I can come up with.

I haven't touched this rig in a while. Been working on other RC projects, living life, and been dialing in my 1:1

I had a chance last weekend to run this rig, and found a few problems that I got to fix, and I'm glad to announce that I've finally began masking the body and prepping it for paint (sometime in the next few days)

I added an old pair of random sliders I had in my parts box. They're from an old SCX10 rig that I bought for parts and never used until now. While they seem very well built, I hardly know anything about them:oops:

I swapped the battery plugs on all my rigs to the more popular XT60 design. I'm a stickler for black, and these had little covers so I didn't have to use heatshrink"thumbsup"

Though I had the body trimmed (to factory lines) after running it, I found it interfered with my winch setup so I trimmed more away. Mostly in the front, but I also trimmed the sides a bit to clear the sliders

Speaking of the winch, I moved my rearmost guide over a bit so the line would spool back up correctly.

I want to go back to the original plastic skidplate. This one works flawless, but the links are an extremely loose fit and I'm too lazy to shim them correctly

Heck yeah! 1.5 tires are awesome!
As a word of caution, I tried 1.55 wheels on a set of AR45P axles and they wouldn't clear... though portal axles seem wonderful
