Rockedup Ricky's 53

After doing my 1st scaler ( Dad's old work truck ). It was a lot of fun. So I'm starting another 53. This time we'll keep it a pick up. Here's some pics of what I got so far.

K2-4 chassis with a 4 link set up. And I'm going to try droop on this scaler. Here's a shot from the top and the bottom.

ROCKEDUP RICKY 05-24-2008 07:54 AM

I got the tranny in, I put the disconnect on the tranny to the front so I can go from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t...7/DSC01314.jpg

I cut the bed out so I can do a drop bed. I'll make a working tailgate.

Nova's Ark 05-24-2008 10:55 AM

Looks good so far. Subscribed.

JBHardwear 05-24-2008 11:47 AM

Lookin good Rick"thumbsup" I love that you are doing the front disconnect as I am building one too. What colors do you have in mine for the body? Are you planning on having as much detail work as the "Work Truck"?
I will be watching this one close"thumbsup"

ROCKEDUP RICKY 05-24-2008 03:16 PM

I want to hold myself back on the detail. But the more I build the more my mind starts turning. As far as color, I'm going to paint the inside rust, Then I'm going to paint the out side silver and then what ever color I decide. I'm thinking something flat. That way the 1st scrach will look like bare metal and the the rust will show after that.

I'm bad with names but never for get a face, Like JB face there's one you don't forget. Keeping the board names matched to the real names get tough some times.

I like the way the bumper came out too, I figured I'd make it curved thats how it will look after a while any way.

You should cut out a place for the winch line like this...

This rig won't need no winch in the front, that winch hole looks like it should go in the back.

Or do you meen wench hole, thats more what it look like to me. At least one of them.

drc323 06-09-2008 08:01 PM

ROCKEDUP RICKY 06-10-2008 07:49 PM

You're moving along nicely Ricky..
Great work...

Nova's Ark 06-11-2008 10:06 AM

Did you use tubing or solid rod for the front bumper and rock sliders?

What brand of flux and solder are you using for the brazing?

I have a Hilift coming and I want to make some sliders and stuff for it. It is coming along very nicely. Looks good"thumbsup"

I used solid rod on the front bumper and sliders. I used tubing and the caped it on the back.

As far as solder, I use a rosin core solder for metal repairs and not that much flux. I use mapp gas and oxygen to solder with. The only thing I can't keep together is the rack on my other truck,But my bumpers and sliders havn't ever fail.

ROCKEDUP RICKY 06-16-2008 09:26 AM

The glue showed up , so I got the bed glued up and the tailgate working. Them dogs think they get to go for a ride or something.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t...7/DSC01442.jpg

I got started on the floor board. Have to cut around everything to make it fit.

Here's the fire wall and behind the seats.

Nova's Ark 06-16-2008 10:49 AM

Wow, that is coming along nicely. Very nice.

Thanks for the info on the tube and solid rod. I used a mixture of both when I made my lumber rack for my 2.2 scaler. I used Home Depot flux, solder and Mapp gas. The solder and flux were of poor quality and I wanted to see what you are using before I attempted this next 1.9 build. I think I am going to buy some Harris flux and solder to braze with this time. You mentioned Mapp and Oxygen together. Are you using a set up similar to a cutting torch where each has it's own valve into one tip?

Stormin2u 06-16-2008 12:56 PM

That rig is sure showing some very nice potential I hope you paint it that green that so many Chevrolet's of that period were painted. How does the brass hold up compared to brake line?

I not sure on color. You seen maybe some of my crashes, the brass holds up good.

Both tanks into 1, real small flame.
