Re: Toyota Hilux 4WD build w/Trail Finder Chassis

This was one of my first RC trucks that I built. It was my first Toyota. I sold it 4 years ago. Like a lost dog, it found its way back home after a long 4 years.

How it left me and came back to me. It didn't change one bit.
OG TF1 chassis
Yota axles
Bruiser leafs beat up, chino modded and broken in
bruiser interior
Air Hogs driver guy named Stumpy Steve
Hilux body
OG Mocrawler soft top (only a few of these ever made)
R2 tranny
huge punisher shafts
Cad To Chrome Walker Evans beadlocks
SDI Trsil Docs XL

http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/r...psodegxwyw.jpg
http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps8xxt9ak2.jpg

I immediately removed the large styrene tranny skid I made and replaced it with a subtle one.

I will be doing an overhaul on this one and updating it over then next year.

Stay tuned. Or not. Whatever.

Awesome build eddievedder, and I'm glad you got the truck back virtually unchanged from the day you sold it. I read this from the beginning to ideas for my TF II and sort of had my doubts, but you made this chassis look incredible. I'll definitely be watching what happens next, even if you wheel it as it is (something I need to learn)

Re: Toyota Hilux 4WD build w/Trail Finder Chassis

Its been almost a year and this thing has been sitting on the shelf. Since I am doing a throwback Jeep build, I figured id work on this one while i was waiting for paint to dry on the jeep.

http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/r...pssargpref.jpg

Original Cad To Chrome Walker Evans style wheels. Needed an update… Rear wheel.
http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/r...psov5tbigd.jpg

Added some scale lugs and center cap.
http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps9zgm7ajk.jpg

Front
http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/r...psk3arhfm9.jpg

much more betterer
http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/r...psbu1irqjz.jpg

I replaced those giant super duty Punisher shafts with some Junfac Carbon Steel shafts.
http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/r...psubhgjdhx.jpg

after 5 years of not running this rig, I got about 4 minutes of run time before the drive shaft broke! LOL. Serves me right for swapping the HD Punishers out.
http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/r...psngdh6k0t.jpg

Anyway, a few wheeling pics. She still wheels great and just like a leaf sprung 30 year old 1.1 rig.

http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/r...pscygom3sm.jpg

Oh and I added this old school TSS bumper. I think Ill spray it flat black, but wanted to test it. Hmmmm maybe Ill leave it raw. Im kind of digging the raw look. OK, black or raw???

Re: Toyota Hilux 4WD build w/Trail Finder Chassis

Back in the game. I fixed the rear drive shaft. My 6 year old son came home from school and wanted to drive this. I told him that I started this build before he was born. He was pretty pumped to wheel it.

He drove it and he also took both pictures when I was driving. He's learning…

I also added some shackles where the LED mounts are in the bumper.

It's honestly not the greatest chassis and it was a pain to reverse the front leaf hangers but it works for me and back in 08, it was the best chassis besides an original Bruiser chassis which were expensive and hard to come by.

Re: Toyota Hilux 4WD build w/Trail Finder Chassis

yea it was my first crawler chassis I actually bout it because i seen 1BadJeepBruisers atomic toy and was just amazed at the detail and then I wanted one so its got a special spot but i never really did much with it once i had it put together and then i moved and it all got lost in boxes, but seeing this makes me want to pull it out of moth balls and start again but i was wondering when you did the shackle swap you have it pointed with the one hole down could you turn it up and use both holes or does it not line up right?

Toyota Hilux 4WD build w/Trail Finder Chassis

12 years old. Still going strong. It’s finally done. Haha. Nothing left to do but wheel it.

Edit: one more thing to do. Scale hardware for the OG Cad To Chrome wheels.

Here is a throwback Thursday photo when RC4WD Rock Stompers were new and the most “scale” tire.

Great build! Thank you for sticking with it and keeping it going. It's always wonderful to see how old builds are used or completed. "thumbsup"

Thanks. It sure has evolved over the years. I had sold this one many years ago and then was able to buy it back mostly untouched. I’m so glad I did.
