Default Akguanjas *Official* DATSUN 720 Pickup Build Thread

Project: DATSUN 720 RESTORATION

Heres what ive got so far:
1980's DATSUN 720 Body by Marui
GD-600 GRU for tranny
Axial Tranny Converted into T-case
Losi MRC Axles
Imex claw dawg 1.5's
Kawada 1.5 Mini Cooper rims
turned/polished TLT shocks w/bruiser boots

Okay so. I've been building this thing since end of last summer. Not really much building done by me so far just alot of wallet sponsering. thinking, and a bit of building here n there so far.

The body for this project is a Marui BIG BEAR produced in the 1980's
This Datsuns journey began its new RC life with Mr eddieveder on Scale4x4 Here http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/showthread.php?t=24036

After a while eddie ended up needing some money and this is where i came into play

Well i had been looking at these killer tops made by a guy that goes by the name of MOCRAWLER on RCC and his wife. So now that the body was mine i asked eddieveder to send it directly to Mr MOCRAWLER on MWRCC Here. http://www.midwestrcc.com/forum/show...=6530#post6530 he agreed.

After a couple of months of anticipateing and paitently waiting this is what MOCRAWLER and his wife came up with!
an amazing top!

At this point i was talking to mocrawler about getting some nuts brazed for a roof rack he mentioned Matt @ Dinky RC and what great racks he made. Well i was already familiar with his work im sure some of you have seen the 4 link mounts made from steel bars for my axial tuber well those were made by the man himself.

So i agreed i would have a talk.

Well it was about this time i was also trying to figure out which chassis i needed to use after trying to mock the truck up on a new K2 .5 MRC Chassis but i didnt have room for everything that i wanted to put inside it so i figured it was going to take something unique and custom to fit everything under this tiny body! of a wb of 9" .

After a bit of talking i decided to have Matt @ Dinky RC build the chassis for the DATSUN and other scale goodies to go along with it. So now the frame/steel fab work is up to Dinky RC he has the body and may have it for a month or more doing mockups etc.

More on my end i have been trying to decide on which tires / rims to run ive been through about 3 sets of rims/tire combos and finally with Mr pantablos help i ended up deciding on these 1.5 mini rims and cut down 2.2 imex claw dawgs.

The tires came out to 3.5" tall x 1.25" wide and are a perfect fit on the truck IMHO check it out for yourself.

At this point i am going to start on the Interior work and my first styrene adventure!

I will keep everyone posted! this build will probably take untill summer to compleate or longer but i want to get the thread started now to keep from missing anything.

OK my man, the Datsun is definitely in good hands. I love what you have planned for it.

And dont worry if it takes long to finish. It will come out much better that way.

Great truck this is a classic rig very nice. The "Mo Soft Top" is going to look awesome and a very nice touch.

Default revisiting this

2 Years later.......

Okay so here's the down low on this thing.

Matt over at Dinky RC had serious life issues a couple years back and is now back in the game I since have had issues in life myself and disappeared from RCC but now I'm back and so is dinky so we are going to be doing this thing right.

this truck has been in the build process for over 2 years now, you should see the stacks of stuff I have for this thing here laying around its going to be EPIC!

I got the word from Dinky about a month ago that this little guy will be back under way as soon as MSD nats is over with its going to be ridiculous so I suggest you guys watch this thread for updates!

I have only ever seen a handful of builds with a datsun 720 murai big bear body and I am going to make sure its done right.

And so it begins...

This is the 3rd frame I've made for this truck,
and I think I'm finally satisfied. Since they don't make, what would be compared
to a 18th scale Bruiser frame, I opted to make my own, sorta.

Working around the MRC axles makes things quite difficult with clearances.
Especially considering we will be using 10th scale drive-train.
There will be a few surprises along the way, so stay tuned...
