Front axle http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1040 Rear axle http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1039 Basic Idea with body on http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1042 Token Flex Shot http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1044 |
adding lights to body, Humvee has no light buckets Pre-Drill holes http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1052 Small Step Drill http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1053 Large Step Drill http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1051 Using F350 Roll bar lights for my buckets Use Plastruct to attach http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1048 Bucket from outside http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1049 both buckets done http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1050 |
Moving on I cut out the rear lights http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1069 Using a the same buckets from the front, I heated them up a bit and pinched one end to make the slight teardrop shape of the Humvee rear lights. Mounted the bucket in the same fashion as the front. http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1070 |
Rear shocks adjusted http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1141 Front shock mounts raised a bit http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1140 Since I added headlights and there were other lights I decided to ream out the front aux light to light them up as well. Out side front aux lights (solid no use) http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1136 Pilot drill http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1137 Flattened out some styrene (with heat) shaped it to the bottom cover like the solid lights (see pics above) and glued it into place. http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1138 I have some orange lenses that I have cut to size to glue on after paint. (pics to come) |
Looks good. I have a H1 Wagon body here, something like this: http://www.gmhummer.com/classifieds/...55CIMG1214.JPG but it's a Fire Chief's one, so it has a lightbar on top (that works) and head lights and tail lights (that also work), it also has sounds that go with it too lol. I want to do 4 wheel independant suspension on it. |
Sweet, I work on Air Force HMMWV's every day, I have always wantedto build one with solid axles and an engine that doesnt suck (Cummins). Sure it would take away ground clearance, but then the suspension might actually articulate when going over obstacles.. Nicely done man, cant wait to see more! |
Thanks, it's been an enjoyable build and the chassis is awesome! Adding some details Raised the snorkle http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1143 Front headlights finally done http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1144 http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1145 Tail lights done (used F350 Highlift headlights cut/sanded to fit) http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1146 Brake lights on http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1147 We've got headlights http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1148 http://www.tamiyacrawlers.com/forum/...pictureid=1149 |
How is the quality of the chassis? I really want to use one for a defender 90 build, but I haven't seen the chassis in person (and probably never will) so it's hard to spend the $$ and hope for the best. |
Chassis is awesome, MSD is always quality stuff. Fit and finish is superb "thumbsup" |
check out the march 2008 radio control car action issue"thumbsup" |

I had the chassis and placed multiple shells on it and the humvee was a instant must do. It is more of a scale crawler than his (If I did as much work as him on the body trails would be the most it would see) Mine will be for rocks and trail and will feature onboard video. The RCCA article did not do much explaining on the build process, due to limited space in the magazine I'm sure. This is my way to do the body and I used all Tamiya parts for the body. Thanks for the info on the article, I had not looked at it in sometime, it was good to refresh such a sweet build. "thumbsup" |
NICE WORK!ive always loved the HMMWV i used to drive these things around in the army quite a bit. i love the water box, what is it? where did you find it? |

I'll definately be keeping an eye on this build, I have one ofthese bodies floating around the hobby room but I've never been sure what to do to it |
haha very cool, i just lost some electronics to a huge mud/water hole, it was fun, till it went nuts after i got home :P so a water box is quite needed lol |
Great job on the lights |
