| And it Begins... My 1.9 chevy build lots o pics... UPDATED FINALLY!!!
I am guessing this build is going to take a while, I am trying to build a replica of my older brothers truck, or come close anyway, I havent decided on a chassis yet I think im gonna make one out of split square tubing. I have had a clod body sitting around for ages so I started filling and cutting it up to make it a bit more scale. I filled in the blower hole and sun roof and decided to give the whole drop bed thing a go. So keep in mind this is my first try at a drop bed. This is what I started with I didnt get a chance to snap a pic of the body before I took it apart. I first ground out the center of the grill no more 4x4x4 Then covered it in a piece of styrene And preped it for Paint by filling in the headlight bucket with yellow tak. I then painted it and put a chevy grill from a proline body in the center. I saw someone else on here do it and thought it looked really good. I also took some side marker lights from the proline body and used them as signal covers. Then I filled the sunroof After sucessfully building a flatbed for my actros out of sheets of styrene I decided to have a go at a drop bed for the chevy. I started out with the bed floor and sides. I amde the fender wells out of the pieces I cut from the sides and added a strip of styrene to them for stability then glued a strip to the top of them to cover it Finished fender well then I smoothed out the corners a bit with a file. Assembled the bed. Covered the floor with this piece and cut it to fit. And test fit the bed... thats about where I am at right now Last edited by dankycrawler; 01-22-2008 at 12:18 AM. |

I think I came up with the grille Idea. Looks awesome by the way I think I might have to do the same with my bed. Where did you get the rippled styrene though? |

WOW man this thing looks awesome!! I am so siked to see so many drop beds being done, they made a rig look 100x scaler! The grill looks awesome like that too, much better then that 4x4x4 crap I like the idea of using thumb tac to keep the chrome in the head light buckets, thats an awesome idea! Keep up the good work -Mike |

The rippled styrene I got at the LHS where I got the other sheets. I think they sell it as metal siding for building model houses for railways. Well im heading down to work for the week but hopefully I can make some progress on it when I come back on thursday. Thanks for all the coments! | |

Thanks people I decided to build the body first and then a chassis around the body. My plan for the drivetrain is a set of tlt axles running through an r2 on some bfg's I think im gonna wait until they come out with the disconnect model though. I heard you can flip it around and use it to shift from 2wd rear to 4wd. is that right?

Very nice man. Those fender wells are made out of styrene as well? I haven't mess much with styrene, just cellfoam for now. I didn't know styrene would bend so much. I have been debating doing a drop bed on my rig.. Great work. Last edited by SMFtwstdHICK; 05-16-2007 at 09:25 AM. |
