Talking Burn Baby Burn-Disco INFERNO (Disco is dead, Cab change)

Started a 1.9 scaler build.....plan to use a Vanessa's Lunchbox body, complete with psychadelic paint, shag carpet, and an MP3 player blasting out the Bee Gees...hahaha! (EDIT*-LB body too short....going Yota)

Here's the frame....made from 1/2" square tube, formed and split. Then crossmembers added out of C channels and brake line....the frame is pinched in the front. All Mig'd.
Trans is a Pede. Plan on doing full leaf spring suspension and either Axial or RC4WD axles....

I was sure that this was going to be a land rover DISCOvery build. I would much rather see a van.

Well....the van body is out for this build. The WB is just too short. So I'll be running a Toyota with a tube back half.
Here's where I'm at now.
I made the springs, upper plates and the U-bolts.
The aluminim plates are RC4wd, which I drilled for centering pins. I don't like how RC4wd mounts there springs.....too much crap hanging down, so I'm basically doing U-bolt flips and moving the springs inboard.

Nice progress so far. By Toyota body do you mean Tundra?

Oh...it'll be the overly popular Bruiser/High-Lift 'Yota. I hope to make mine a bit different than all the others however.....I'll be spraying the body with Roth MetalFlake and House of Kolors paint. It'll ALMOST be a shame to skratch it...haha!

I'll post up a few pics of the rest of the parts later.

Yeah....I just don't like long vans....or have the heart to cut one up...haha!

I'd still like to do a van....just gotta build a shorter frame. Maybe it'll be my next build. A van body allows alot of freedom for wild paint....maybe some unicorn murals, or a scantily clad barbarian chick riding a dragon...hahaha!!!

Update....
Suspension is mounted. I made the front shackles, all the U-bolts, and the rear springs.
Body is mocked up so I can start on the tube back half. It will be removable.

What did you use to make the springs?

Springs are made from a lawnmower starter recoil spring. It's the same thickness and width as RC4wd springs....I'd bet their springs are made from lawnmowers too...haha!
Tamiya springs are a hair thicker, therefore stiffer.
What's nice about the recoil spring, is that the coil get's "tighter", so you can make different "lift" springs, depending on where ya cut it out at.

The front springs are RC4wd (I got 'em with a bunch of other stuff), so I used those as a reference but made the rears longer....more flex. I heated the ends with a small torch to "roll" the eyelets with needle nose pliers, then dipped 'em in cold water to re-temper 'em.

If you're not using the LB body, at least give it some bowling-ball flake and a white angel hair interior!

Thanks...
I just put the square tubing in a vise and heated it up in the areas I wanted it bent....keep the heat on it while slowly bending it into shape. Just a dull red is fine. Once bent but still hot, take out of vice and hammer and dolly (your vice, bench, etc.) along the area you just bent (the sides), as it will have disformed a hair.
Once cool, just split it down the center for two, identical rails.
