Default Hilift Hilux Build

An oldie but a goodie. I have built a ton of Associated, a few Kyosho/LosiAxials. I have also built a few of the older Tamiya's, Clods, Lunchbox, Blackfoot and a Frog. This is by far the hardest physical build. Spent 3.5 hours just building the 3 speed tranny (should have started my Pics then but was too engrossed. Another 5 hours today on the chassis, diffs and leafs.

This is going to be a Hilux to resemble my departed brother-in-laws hunting truck (his favorite). Using the stock rims and adding the Tamiya BFG tires for the scale look. Doing a drop bed, adding a 2 stall dog cage and some basic tools that he used to maintain the dog pens at his deer camp. I have a rifle and for the rack I will make but still need a shotgun. We found the company in Mississippi that made his camo seat covers and they sent us enough material to cover the ones I will make. I am going to try my hand at weathering and rusting.

Biggest challenge I can see is that big ass tranny, but on the interior, since he had bench seats, I will use a hollowed out ice chest. I am thinking in the bed, a wooden crate in front of the dog cage and maybe a big bag of purina to hide the tranny humps.

Any ideas, please let me know. So on to the PICs:

More next weekend.

Finally got back to this, now it is running I have to determine what I will strip off that is un needed. Still have to swap the shocks out.

Steering in and adjusted

All the electronics in and it is running

And a little extra, License Plate and Trailer hitch

So the longest build in history continues, 4 months and counting.

SInce I built my Hilux exactly as per the direction, i have since been tearing it apart. FIrst to go was all the damn plastic all over the top. Then the 3 speed, as cool as it was, i needed room.

Now there is a R2 with a 45T Tekin in it.

The bed has been dropped and the tailgate made operational. There are removable panels to access the lights. SInce I had no idea what I was doing here, I juts winged it.

Starting on the interior next. Hopefully by time the weather breaks, I will be done with the body work and can get it painted then rusted.

I am going full out rusted Mississippi Hunting Truck with a 2 bay beagle crate in the rear.

This was my Brother-in-laws. He passed last year so I am trying to copy his old truck

I have only made it this far. That drop bed and opening tailgate was a bit*h.

Spent the day painting. Trying to get the rust right and the faded paint. I found it to be difficult to mix gloss and flat on the same body and make it smooth. I did finish the rear window detail to look like a sliding glass window, still need to add some flat color and a touch of rust.

Starting to look more like a hunting truck. Still need to make a dog cage for the bed and a trailer for the 4 Wheeler.

Thanks, Masking tape and an air brush. The hard part was making them fade like they had aged.

Here you can see the relative size.

With paint, looks aluminum but hard to see in the Pics.
