| carbon chassis? ?
Hello. I need a new chassis for my class 2. I need that the new chassis will be the lightest that will be possible. So i have thought to built in carbon fiber. What do you think? Or in what material could I use to built it? Aluminium? Delrin? And which section do you use for it? Thank you very much! ! |

If you want super light, you need to do a carbon fiber skinned, cored pannel construction. For eg. A 1/8" carbon plate will be made up of about 12-layers an 200gm cloth. A sandwich plate made of about 2-layers of carbon skin, with a 1/8" balsa core, will have the same stiffness as the solid pannel, but it will be way lighter. Where any bolt-through go, will have to be reinforce so the bolting down of items, doesn't squash the pannel. My seats were made like this. 1/8" balsa, skinned with 1-layer of carbon cloth. The seats weigh 15gm. each, and were easy to make. And a corecell / carbon skinned chassis on one of my micro builds: PM me for how to build such pannels and other info pertaining. I did mine in Delrin. Its proven to be really tough yet flexible. The material holds M3 threads really well. Its light weight. It has since been shortened for a bobbed bed. -B |
