The more beat the better I plan on adding a lot of functional details, opening doors, hood, etc...rust, rot and the works This will be a first for me as I like building pretty rigs. LOL Thanks for the support and a big THANKS to Team3six and RC4wd for this awesome contest.

Just a quick shot of what I started today. Not a lot done but also had my sick 3yr old today to look after. He kept asking "Daddy why are you taking the doors off? "

Did some digging around in my mountain of tires and found these. If you look real close..they match the 1:1 (rims not so much), thats gotta be one heck of a fluke eh..LOL

Doors are off and was messing around with a hinge idea, just need to tweak it a bit more and it'll work pretty darn good.

Still on my list of must haves: Yota Axles and a RC Bro's Leaf kit, scale RC4wd shocks.

The drivetrain will have to be figured out as I know it has to be divorced (like I will be soon if I keep asking her if I can spend $$$) just need to look into it more.

So any thoughts so far ?

How did you do the hinges?

I'm building a semi and want the doors to open.

Once I have it working better I will post up some pics. But its just piano wire and some tubing and sanding the door gaps to allow it to open. A little trick I learned while building models. ;)

Started with a little rust last night
Just got the frame done and will decide where to go after that. Don't want to go over board with the rust so I think this is a good start. Also got a few goodies on the way, RC4wd scale Yota axles and shocks. Once those come in then I can figure out a leaf spring setup.

Well I never thought I'd get a woody for rusty frame rails! That looks super sharp and I've gone thru more frames from rust than I like to admit. Yup, time to start oilspraying my 1:1s. The salt around here is brutal from December to April.
Can't wait to see how this Toy turns out!

I've got the hinges all made up and mounted for a mock up. I would have pics but the battery died in my camera Pics in the morning of the hinge setup for Rckcrwlr . I'm pretty happy how they came out, open nice and smooth with no hangups anywhere. Still waiting on my axles and shocks to show up and fingers cross William from RcBros will have a leaf spring kit ready for me on Monday I hope to find more time than I have had to work on it lately so I can get some real progress going.

Here are a few pics of the hinge I use on my models and now just made bigger to use on this project. I used 1/16 brass rod and 1/8 styrene tube to build this hinge, the final setup will be epoxied in. A lot of model guys have the hinge flipped around the other way but it doesn't give you a real looking setup when the door is open i.e the door itself is outside of the fender (opens like a cheap diecast car). In the pics the hoops look massive but they aren't really that big and will get hidden by the inner door skin. The smaller the hoop the less the door will open, you just have to play around with the size you want. Now on to the pics.
