Default Runnin' Raptor

My buddy RPMJ came to me with an idea for a rig based off his new truck, a brand new Ford Raptor with the 6.2 liter. It didn't take long before the wheels were turning and I decided to take over the build for him.

With perfect timing Wrecker came into town and helped get the project off the ground. Wrecker and I worked on it for a couple hours before he had to head out of town. After that I was on my own and going to town. Started with a SCX10, a Proline Raptor body, RC4WD 4.19" Mickey Thompson Baja Claws, some custom links and 30 feet of 1/8th solid rod.

Some body cutting and about 15 feet into the 1/8th rod and here is how she sits.

Now this isn't going to be a crawler per say, more of a pre runner, with some big brushless power. So I braced everything in the bed including the braces. There will also be a full internal cage, trailing arms and some pretty long rear shocks. More as it comes.

awesome work, i would give my left nut for a raptor, wish we had them here. this will be very cool and i will be watching, although a long arm ifs set up would suit very nicely for the pre-runner style ie, summit?

Should be a pretty fun rig capable of taking a beating.

Its Rodney's call, but we did talk about just a little bit.

Yeah we talked about doing a Indy front end, but it just seemed like too much hassle in the end. Plus a Summit would be way too big!

We did notice a HPI Mini Trophy truck is almost identical in width, Maybe for a future project though. Plus the way the front bumper will be you really won't notice the solid axle up front.

We talked about that too, but we were both some what worried about durability. Although the Axial axles are a hair wide for this style they will be stronger and it also gives us tons of hop up and replacement options.

Thanks man, I have been cranking away today. The internal cage is almost done. Slowly working my way to the front.

Thanks again guys for the props.

HPI mini trophy is dead nuts to the right width..

It's the lack of steering that sucks though.. Might have a plan for that though.

Have I mentioned I've been pondering this for a while..

That was the big issue for us too. The steering is the worst part of the entire vehicle, sure I could make some fancy system, but I don't think I have it in me. I will save that for you. The other issue is the A-arms need to sit pretty much level or the dog bones will fall out, I added shocks to the front of mine that were maybe a quarter inch longer then stock and the dog bones fell out. I hear the CVDs help with this. But just another issue I didn't want to deal with at this time.
