project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. about 6 weeks ago i started on a rock bouncer build. like many others i really liked the screamin II chassis so, i decided to build my 1.9 version of the chassis with alittle different paint and body style. i already lost track but if i had to guess i would say i have about 60 hours in this build as of now. TIG welded chassis, all 3/16 .035 wall stainless steel tube 11 1/4 WB scx10 axles scx10 trans all billet gears mip shafts trinity 15T on 3S G Made shocks mayhem 1.9 monsters 1.9 IROKS JR 8711 steering servo anyway here's some pics, let me know what you guys think. here it is now, would be a roller if i had my wheels from mayhem. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...ps9ee2c107.jpg and here's where i started. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...psc6729d64.jpg little welds "thumbsup" http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...ps387032b4.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...psd02e6414.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...ps9840ae59.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...ps0b99e8a0.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...ps78a8fee9.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...ps1eceaafa.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...psac69730e.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...pse4e86e76.jpg i was going to run a 3 link front with a panhard and CMS but my drag link was going to run right through my shock so i fixed that problem. i made a front truss for axle mount servo (which is what i really wanted anyway). http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...psa3c73354.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...ps3f28920b.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...ps5ec92f2a.jpg motor clearance at upper link mount. :lmao: http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...ps8ebd7137.jpg and just another shot from underneath http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...ps5a69869e.jpg and here's with the tires, 1.9 iroks, set up next to it. the ride height isn't right here it will be lower then this by little. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...ps11d235f1.jpg |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. nice welds brother! |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. Wow those are nice welds!! |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. looking good, dont see to many 1.9 build like this keep it up |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. you should certainly feel good about those welds. there better then 99% of the top builders on here.. great job! |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. Wow. Those welds are  you have serious Tig skills. I have rarely seen that clean of welding on something as small as 1:10 scale. Welcome to the forum I can't wait to see more of your work. "thumbsup" |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. That turned out great. Love the welding job. Looking forward to seeing it running. |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. thanks for the compliments guys. i most say the actual chassis was the easy part. getting the suspension right and making everything fit in a small space is just crazy. i give props to others putting full interiors in their builds. |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. ok your welds make me wanna try - what welder are you using? |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. i have been using a miller dynasty 350. "thumbsup" |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. Shazammmmm"thumbsup" Most impressive, gotta love those tigs. |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. just googled that welder... and jeez. |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. yeah, that's what i use a work. i have a dynasty 200 as my home machine. |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. Nice job Warren! I want a tig for Christmas! I gotta give you props...I thought a 2.2 was hard to fit stuff into...I can only imagine how tight things are on the 1.9! Question though...why 1.9 in the first place? |

Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. Those nickles are nicer than the crap you do at work :lmao: |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. Omg those welds! |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. Yeah, like everyone has been saying. Your welds are incredible! |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. Quote:
i told you man, i had to lay down some "scale" dimes. "thumbsup" |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. Nicest welds I've ever seen on a scale chassis period! |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. ok guys i need some help here. i finally put some electronics on this thing. and i am getting a huge of amount of intereference from something. when i hit the steering and let it go, it will go all the way back and forth and maybe come back to center or maybe not. the ESC does the samething. it acts like i keep pulling the trigger then letting go and repeat. i tried 2 different radios and RX, samething happens. anyone have any help? |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. Your servo needs a BEC. |

Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. Does it do the same thing outside of the chassis? Is something (exposed wire) touching the chassis? Did you pull the red wire from the ESC with the BEC plugged into the receiver? Bad ass chassis BTW! Nice job on the welds. |

thank you. |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. My best advice is go through the electronics section and read read read and search search search. You're bound to find a similar issue with answers and/or advice. Also, google the crap out of the issue and add rccrawler and see what you find. You can also use the google custom search in the upper right corner of this screen to search the forum easier. I wish I had an answer for you. "thumbsup" Maybe try a new bec or redo your connections and solders? I've found this advice valuable. Sometimes when you stare at something too hard for too long, you get blinders. Walk away...clear your head and then take a fresh look at it. More times than not, you'll find something you skipped over because you were concentrating too hard on one thing or the other. Case in point, I spent an hour looking for a cake pan (yes a cake pan) for my wife that was in the garage. I tore it upside down and couldn't find it. I thought it was in a certain place. After looking everywhere, I found it. It was literally right where I thought it was supposed to be, almost in plain sight...right behind the one box I didn't move. It doesn't help with your issue, but again I spent an hour looking for something that I could have found in less than a minute if I didn't loose my head getting distracted and frustrated. |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. well i don't know if it anything to do with it. but i put a full charge in my battery and for some reason the servo quit glitching. but my ESC is still acting up. a buddy of mine ask if i switched it from "brushless" to "brushed" motor or not. so hopefully i'll get his castle link today to get that checked out. anybody think this could have anything to do with it? what exactly would this do? |

Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. it must be the fact that the battery was low on voltage causing the servo to act up. and apparently since i didn't check my speed control before trying it out, it was still on brushless motor setting. after switching it to brushed motor everything seems to work just fine. i put my honcho tires and wheels on it and got some pics, don't mind the wires obviously they will get tied back better at final assembly. :lmao: http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...ps4c3fa82d.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...ps794ad125.jpg not much flex, who needs flex when you got bounce. right? http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...psd92d84da.jpg ground clearance http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...ps45b30243.jpg |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. Sounds like you figured it out. "thumbsup" Again....Most problems are solved in the easiest way possible....yet we kill ourselves trying to figure them out. Glad you're up and running and some good info for anyone reading."thumbsup" |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. i drove it around alittle today at work, seems to work just fine. it's time to tear it back down to chassis and finish welding supension tabs. then start on body panels. |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. little update, sorry no pics. i have started on the body panels. have to admit probably the hardest part of the build so far. the side panels are a huge PITA trying to get them in one piece, but i have one side done already. once i get the other side done i will get mounting tabs welded on then it's time for powder coat and final assembly. |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. i have my body panels all finished up. they're not all mounted yet but here's what they look like. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...ps0a28fb17.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...psef670e91.jpg |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. Body panels look good! I still can't believe how small that chassis is! 8)8)8) |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. Quote:
thanks. yeah i would have went 2.2 for sure if i could have got some wraith axles loaded like i did with my scx10 axles. |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. i got all my body panels done and mounted. now it's time for powder coat. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...pscd70ea34.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...ps77c5ee5c.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...ps65deb86e.jpg |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. Eating popcorn...!"thumbsup" |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. wow.... this thing looks killer! the panels look great on there! color choice?? |
Re: project Night Fury-a rock bouncer build. Quote:
i'm going with gloss black on the chassis and i'm getting some vinyl wrap done for my panels. |
