I plan on getting some new rigs in the near future but in the meantime I have this RTR SCX10 sitting around. I'm trying to come up with a plan on what to do with it besides trying to sell it. It is mostly stock except for plastic bumpers, aluminum links, aluminum front and rear hubs, cvds, Chinese wheels, and rock beast tires. I have basic mechanical knowledge so I don't want to turn this in to some big project and get frustrated half way through. Tired of the Wrangler body that came with it. Thinking of making it my back up/ loaner rig, just not sure about what upgrades I should do. I stick mostly dirt /mud trails with some rocks. Budget <$250 Could do a budget build Another pic Sent from my moto g(6) play using Tapatalk Last edited by THX_138; 12-28-2018 at 11:49 PM. |

To start with, I would give that pig a bath and do some basic maintenance.

This. Get a set of beefier driveshafts and since you have aluminum links already, I’d just look for a body with the same wheelbase. Pull the electronics and spray it down with some SuperClean from the parts house. Wait about 30-45 seconds and water hose it off. Should be good as... really clean. | |

HobbyWing 1080 ESC is the “go to” ESC around here for brushed and it’s waterproof. You can find them all day long for $40 or so with the program card. As far as the motor, I would recommend any of the brushed motors from Holmes Hobbies that fit within your budget. The only other thing I would do is an upgraded servo (higher torque).

I dont think you really need to do much. It has good tires, 27t is ok until it goes out, upgrade the driveshafts when they fail, maybe metal trans gears? Play with the spur/pinion gearing to get the sweet spot. Run the ESC you have until it dies, Savox makes a decent waterproof servo for around 35$. Ebay 15% off Coupons are your friend You want to do budget, best way to do that is use what you already have. Only buy what you need |

I personally loved the stock esc when I ran a brushed motor. I took the board out and sealed it with self leveling rtv to make it water proof. Then I programmed it for lipo cut and ran it on 3s with a castle bec to take some load off it. Ran cheap 35t motors that I tuned myself with different brush compounds and spring pressures. I really like savox servos in +400oz range. Mip drive lines. Metal trans gears. Proline shocks. Nothing else was needed until I started using a 3300kv pro4 LOL
