It's Jeepster Time!

Time for another Jeep build, this time not as detailed as the previous one, I want to comp / G6 with this one so it's time for a topless Jeepster. It's in a rough state as it sits, have to pick up more styrene, build up the hood and start the shaping process.

Inspiration ans rough sketch:

Cut templates from the sketch and cut out .080 styrene for the sides for rigidity:

Rough assembly:

You two guys cut from the same slab? I'm awed by both of your styrene skills! Looking forward to the finished product joe!

I would have to die and be re-born, and hopefully with half of your skills, your builds are incredible, and yes I am always looking for pointers!

Hi Scott
Here's the primer that I was talking about, I buy it at a auto body supplier, it's not cheap but it works well,it actually bonds with the styrene, just don't apply a heavy coat at first it will crackle on you. Once you allow the first coat to dry for a couple of hours I apply glazing putty were it needs it, let dry and sand then I apply a heavy coat let dry for a couple of days. If you decide to try it let me know how it went.

Sean, thanks. Found it online at O'reilly auto parts. Your right, $21! SEM is a high quality line. Going to head there now and see if it's on the shelf.

If you have sore fingers from sanding you may want to get a power file from Black & Decker http://www. black and decker.com 1\2 precision belt sander model#PF260 this what I use for my rough sanding and great for metal also.

Re: It's Jeepster Time!

I usually do, but Jeepster's are pretty devoid of any side character lines other than the molding that normally surrounds the wheel wells. I utilized flares this time. I did use a piece of .020 on the hood so as to keep the slight bump in the hood. These are pretty slab sided vehicles. But I always am open to suggestions, especially from a pure craftsman such as yourself, Thanks Sean.

Here I've test fit the cage, will be finishing the interior, fuel cell seats etc. And more sanding!

Looks great! Isn't sanding a lot of fun! Did you get the primer? When ever I finish my priming and body work I wet sand with 320 grit to get it ready for final paint, have you decided on a color?

Is that the Sem primer?

Re: It's Jeepster Time!

NO, very bumbed, it was shown to be available online at both O'reilly and Auto Value parts stores, went to both stores and not in stock, might have been able to order it, but I've heard positive things a bout Duplicolors primer surfacer, so that's what I tried this time.
