Imthatguy builds a Cherokee because he hates Jeeps.

Ta Da!

It's here, and it's amazing.

Getting started with a first look video:

Much more to come. Detail photos and initial assembly impressions will follow in this thread.

Much thanks to Axial for providing the Honcho RTR to be the base for this build.

Very nice, I'm sure you will do some super cool scale stuff with this. As for the two piece body, I can only hope to guess we will see a Comanche version of this soon.

Some of the best box tapping I have seen yet!

Also, they beat you cutting the body in half, they must know their scale stuff, that is a "pro builder" technique.

Can't wait to see what you make of this!

Re: Imthatguy builds a Cherokee because he hates Jeeps.

Might I suggest tossing the front half, and basing your build on the rear half only. Like a reverse truggy.

I don't think we're going to see that from this manufacturer. He didn't have any future plans for this, or other bodies. Perhaps the success of it will change that though!

Maybe I'll cut this one in half the other way! Horizontally!

Now you're thinking like a true Imthatguy.

Okay, time for picture overload!

Starting with how the body parts connect to each other. You can see the seam quite clearly, even after firmly affixing both parts.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/unFYQU.jpg

Lots of tiny Philips head screws and nuts to affix all the parts. It'd be nice if it were hex, but I wasn't expecting it.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/wGPSfS.jpg

More screws. Weird that there isn't any screws affixing the top part of the rear hatch. Luckily, styrene glue works an absolute treat. Unlike some other recent hard bodies, you'll have no trouble putting other pieces of styrene on top of this, if you're looking to do custom work.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/BwMKSh.jpg

In affixing the rear bumper assembly, the instructions call for a screw right through the rear panel. Seems odd that they couldn't come up with a better solution. I opted for scale hardware for now, but will probably screw in from behind and fill the hole.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/aBfhI6.jpg

Front bumper has a nice slot/tab arrangement under the front clip to firmly place itself. Nice.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/zdl5WI.jpg

Great details on the door handles and mirrors.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/vP5AEF.jpg

Light buckets and lenses are really nicely detailed.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/maSmgP.jpg
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/mYCutB.jpg

Another odd thing, in affixing the fenders, a screw through the panel again. I'm looking at a few different ways of solving that - maybe different fenders altogether.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/tYiqmi.jpg

On the Honcho!

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/jT24T7.jpg

Wheelbase is spot on.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/oWifUg.jpg

With fenders:

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/YBdYWB.jpg

Without (could be cool for a comp-cut look):

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/oOA5NG.jpg
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/45mxr1.jpg

And with a simple tire change, pretty easy to get a tuck.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/YUS3BC.jpg

More to come.

Its about the same as other hard bodies with this much detail and the amount of parts. Look at the TF2 or the new blazer

This is true but that don't change the holy crap statis. I do want one but 160 for something that will be rolling off rocks is hard to justify.

The price tag for this level of quality is extremely reasonable.

You could probably hide all those exposed screws on the body with some wood paneling. http://www.curbsideclassic.com/wp-co...15-063-950.jpg

For the love of all things scale......DONT put wood on it. I'm sure a little nOOb mek paste/concoction would do the job.

Oh lordy that's a hot body! For *only* $160 it seems worth it. Got a link to the site where I can buy one? Might need to buy a second SCX10 to mount it on too...hmmmm

Great!

Okay, some inspiration coming at you for what I plan on doing to this perfectly good Jeep.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/OG8rh8.jpg
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/57a7Mc.jpg

Just imagine no front doors. And maybe no rear doors.

Chassis work is started as well. GCM transmission re-location kit, transfer case, Pro-Line Powerstrokes, and a SBG 3D printed cheap alternative to the cantilever kits currently on the market. SSD axle housings are next, and maybe some new links.
