TF2 1946 Power Wagon 4 Attachment(s) Just a little "quicky" I've been fiddling with, every now and then. Had the Boom Racing chassis for the Blazer originally, but I preferred the TF2 more for that one. Nice features of BR chassis, it comes with the pieces to lower the shock mounts and the Rx box, so they're flush with the frame. Hmmm...nice place to put a dropped bed. It comes with the shallow aluminum mount for the transfer case too. I've tried the delrin shallow mount and it sucks for a good fit on the Xfer case. Also going to add a styrene grill and interior. I used RC4WD K44's and REC hub nuts. The wheels are chinese and tires are Proline TSL's that I had to use the blue inner rings for. They are perfectly aligned under the wheel wells. Shocks are 80mm front and 70mm rear which keeps the chassis level and allows for a little more travel up front. Now for the pics. Inspiration... http://realmansman.com/wp-content-so...ower-Wagon.jpg Not the color I'm doing, but it sure is purty. Progress so far... |
Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon 1 Attachment(s) Drop this trans in and never look back. Bonus, 11% overdrive. |

I got some more done yesterday... I created a grill based on an idea I saw, that represents a good old style. I also made up a set of sliders/mounting plates on the frame. I ended up modifying it a few times before I got the ride height the way I wanted it. I used some steel box bands, from Lowes, to make some brackets that would lower them. As a bonus, these brackets span the frame and will give me extra mounting options for an interior later on. The bed turned out ok, I guess. It still needs a few things so it can be secured to the lexan. I can't decide if I want to paint the wood slats or stain/poly them. Time will tell. |
Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon That looks great! Doing a drop bed on these bodies is no joke, you did a wonderful job. |

Gonna get some more done on it this weekend. Front extension for the winch, some kind of interior, and a diamond plate bed box, are on the to-do list. |
Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon 3 Attachment(s) Small update...took me awhile to get this fabbed up, but it turned out the way I wanted it. Push button on the side, releases the latch for the lid. Skids on the bottom, lock it in place in the runners. Interior next...just waiting for my "bench seat" to get here. |
Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon Wow! That box looks incredible! Really nice work! "thumbsup" Is that your 1:1 truck in your avatar? |
Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon Quote:
The box has been painted, since last posting and I've started on the interior. I should have an update this weekend. |
Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon If you have a 3D printer you might be able to get parts here. https://blenderartists.org/t/offroad...r-wagon/580701 I really like the 3D model you can look at from every angle. |

Very nice so far, I've always loved these old Power Wagons and the Jeep pickups like your avatar!!! My TF2 has been tons of fun too. How does the Boom Racing quality compare with RC4WD? I replaced all the soft stock screws with quality hardware. Got everything shimmed up, but front axle bearing pockets too tight (and caused premature bearing death, better than too loose though). RC4WD tcase bearings are sloppy loose fit, I ended up shimming them with plastic sandwhich baggy over bearing and then press bearing into transfer case housing. :ror: |

I'm gonna build a Wagoneer soon, using a RC4WD Bruiser chassis. It's kinda my dream truck. I was thinking of this as a future build in 1/8 scale. I already have the rims and tires. |
Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon 1 Attachment(s) Here is the tool box painted. Working on the interior this weekend, but it will be limited until the I get some stuff from Shapeways. |

Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon Soon...working on a micro that I got for Christmas. Had to redo the box lid cause the diamond plate layer warped. |

Does that make sense? Gotta finish the rebuild on the lid this weekend and get it painted back up. |
TF2 1946 Power Wagon Total since and thank you for sharing that. Very clean precision work. Keep it coming Sir. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon 4 Attachment(s) Lid do-over has been done...no warping this time. Made some headway on the interior also. The dash from Shapeways still needs more sanding and primer before it's ready for paint, but I like how it looks so far. Going to fab up some simple door panels, then the interior will be lookin good. |
Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon It looks like a home made tub is key mounting the interior pieces. Did you make it from styrene sheet and if so what thickness? I bought a Power Wagon bumper from Shapeways. Unfortunately, they don't make one to fit the TF2 so I got the Axial version, cut and reworked the mounts to fit. |
Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon Quote:
I ordered the same bumper, but I'm going to use it as a template and try to make it out of metal. |

Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon 1 Attachment(s) Got some more done on the interior, although I don't have any worthy updated pics. I managed to get a simple tunnel made up and made some door panels. Got the tub mounting worked out. I'm hoping to get some more pics tomorrow. Got the dash panel from Shapeways smoothed out and painted, just need to get the detail bits done. Also, painted the bed insert and laid in the wood slats. Mocked in the toolbox just see how it all looks...I like it! I'm gonna try to get the interior finished up and painted tomorrow after work, but for now... |
Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon I started to build one and then saw yours. :O I quit.. Great looking build.. Awesome work. I'll keep my simple. :) |

Just in case nobody has seen my inspiration... https://barrettjacksoncdn.azureedge....nt_3-4_Web.jpg https://static.pressfrom.info/upload....png?content=1 I want to have the mirrors, but I'm not sure if these are something available in this scale. Has anyone seen them or have a source for them? I may have to fab them up, if not. |
Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon That's hilarious! I have a link to this picture on my desktop. It shows great detail. I'm going with a different color but basically want to reproduce a stock old truck with a leaf spring chassis. Mine will never look this good but at least I'll get play with it. Quote:

Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon That's crazy Rock Dodger! :lmao: ...I actually have it set as my desktop wallpaper, that way I can be inspired every time I open up my computer. |
Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon I also have the same image saved, not as my desktop though, since I just ordered the raw builders kit from Axial and the '46 body! |
Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon "thumbsup" Seems like this is a popular image. I Googled through hundreds of pics before I settled on this one. IMO, it's the nicest representation of the body style, although it's listed as a '58. |

This is my inspiration. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4440-67077.jpg 1 problem I ran into is rear bumper. Huge gap. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4440-67076.jpg yaa, I wanted something with rear steer. I may remove.. Also finding something that looks like stock wheels.. |
Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon Well, that looks awesome! Rear steer...? Not really a fan but if it works for you, I say, keep it. If you can find some 1/2" square tube or channel, you could make extensions for your chassis. Not sure if you need to drop down to the bumper height, if so, you might have to do some thinking and fab up a different way. For the wheels, these hub caps are from Shapeways and made to fit Gmade bead lock rims. I'm not sure which rims, the metal or plastic bead locks??? Maybe someone has done them and will chime in. They could make it easy to do the 2-tone rims, the ones with a silver lip and matching body color center cap. "thumbsup" |
Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon The hubcaps look good and I just happen to have a set of the Gmade wheels. ;) Fixed my bumper gap http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4440-67079.jpg |
Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon 2 Attachment(s) [QUOTE=Zukiiholic;5947722]The hubcaps look good and I just happen to have a set of the Gmade wheels. ;) Fixed my bumper gap Nice fix on the rear extension. Can't wait to see the hub caps on your rig. I made some progress...after a few days working on it, off and on, I've accomplished something...swing-away mirrors. It took quite a bit of effort to get these looking right. I have some proper hex hardware coming for them, so I just mocked up one of them. This is all for now, wife gets me for the rest of the night. |
Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon WOW! ya got more detail in your mirrors than I'm gonna put in my whole rig.. :D We'll see how those hubcaps look in 2 weeks or so.. |
Re: TF2 1946 Power Wagon looking thru Ebay for proLine powerwagon parts and hoping to find a cool Grill option and found this... Door handles? Now I'm not one to judge but WTF??? http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4440-67088.jpg Did a dig poop these out? |

Don't think I'll be able to build up to your level. "thumbsup" I may pick up a few extra things tho. I found in test fittings, 1.55s look smallish..(my biggest 1.55 tires) http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4440-67091.jpg 1.9s look big but tires look small.. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...4440-67092.jpg May look into 1.7s. Don't have any yet. ;) I did start out just wanting something to use my 4wheel steer, Ground Hawg tires and deepdish wheels, Butt.. Still have a rear straight axle waiting in the wings.. |
