Chevy Crew Cab

well its coming together now more than before, i have gathered all the required parts and am piecing together stuff. i have been working on this every weekend for the last few months and i think its pretty cool.

83 chevy grilled and tailgated k30 crew cab short bed thats dropped. full front interior (now probably rear cause ill have th R2) its a tlt based rig with a c'channel chassis not cut yet. the pede trans wont work at all so i gotta sell the two to get an r2... highlift leafs and stuff, bfg and hummer rims. 6 turned tlt shocks, stabilizer style. two tone paint like this:

well heres the beef...

let me know what you think. i have to tweak the suspension in the rear cause the spring over flexes??? too much shackle rotation.
thanks!

Wow, nice work. Those 1.9s fit that truck perfectly.

USATorque55 02-19-2007 06:46 PM

Total props for the Iron Man in the background.

Sweet rig"thumbsup"

ditto looks killer :)

Indaflow 02-20-2007 01:32 PM

Yeah, thats what I'm talking about. :-) That is going to be a nice rig. By the way... How much Stampede trannys do you have? I see two in the background.

xjwalt666 02-20-2007 02:45 PM

holy crap dude. that thing is sweet. im defiatly gonna stay with this one

obijuan 02-20-2007 04:55 PM

thanks for the compliments yo! for the pede trannys, i have two of them, i had three.. but w/e one is new and the other is used. theyre for my planned builds but it seems they are all wanting r2's or custom. so i will sadly let them go here pretty quick. i will have a blazer and a regular cab dually in due time. i got the frame rails cut at work today, so ill put it together and post pics later tonight.

draven 02-21-2007 06:43 PM

When I was younger my parents had that same sub it had 33 12.50 and loud exhaust back then I hated that thing  but now i wish I had it :-( I will keep an eye on this build for sure if you ever go to sell the body let me know:lol:

microgoat 02-21-2007 07:07 PM

Nice work on the body. I'd wait to tweak the suspension until after you get your shocks in; you may not need to do anything once they're in and doing their thing.

obijuan 02-21-2007 07:20 PM

nah i think i got it dialed in. you tell me, its going pretty well the front is definately good to go and now some cross braces are coming maybe this weekend. "thumbsup"

Wow, that looks great, keep the pics coming.

looneybin 02-23-2007 08:23 AM

i just wanted to let everyone know this is the best looking project in the scale section right now. yea this will put all ya'lls yotas to shame. eh but i am a chevy guy.

rockracer 02-23-2007 11:42 AM

That thing is going to be crazy scale.

kickback_crawler 02-23-2007 09:09 PM

Is this going to be suburban or a crew cab truck? Either way its starting very nice. I got some new stuff for my crewcab its getting redone and the body work finished up.

WKCrawler 02-23-2007 09:19 PM

wow that looks awesome! Reminds me of my dad's 78 K10. "thumbsup"

rockbuggy 02-23-2007 09:22 PM

i can't believe how scale it is. the ride height and the amount of articulation looks dead on. great job and keep us updated on the build.

obijuan 02-23-2007 10:13 PM

lil update on the crew cab. did a little more body work to the hood and roof and cut out the bedsides too.
i was playing around with shock locations and the front is kick *** but the rear was totally crampin my style. i wanted to stagger them to combat "axle hop" but they were afore mentioned crampin my style.
what do you think on the locations where it is now allows the most flex out of the springs and i couldnt figger a good way to inboard them because of the bed. check it out.

looneybin 02-23-2007 10:29 PM

this thing is so awsome. i was thinking the same thing about the rear shock interferring with the bed. i think i have a way of solving it but we'll see.

obijuan 02-23-2007 10:30 PM

is it a secret? can you tell me?

ScGRaceR 02-24-2007 01:10 PM

obi your the jedi .... do some mind tricks

obijuan 02-24-2007 01:45 PM

i only throw the mind tricks on bronco lovers. anyway, heres the primed cab. i got it primed up and sanded to see all the imperfections and i still got to put the center strip on the hood and does anyone know where to get fiber optic cable?? i need some for the roof lights.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...e/IMG_2308.jpg

ScGRaceR 02-24-2007 01:56 PM

why wouldnt you use led's?

obijuan 02-24-2007 09:48 PM

i am going to use led's. but only one colored led with fiber optic cable will rout to many different places. and be just as bright.

looneybin 02-24-2007 09:50 PM

well im gonna guess he is talking about the running lights, which are tiny. with fiber optic cable he could theoreticly have all the running lights running from one single led. i don't know where to get it but ive seen a lot of stupid junk that uses fiber optic wires, like those little key chain wands in gas stations or similar. you might could use something like that

lohocla 02-24-2007 10:09 PM

http://www.fiberopticproducts.com/

maybe here....

I got some stuff for a Nissan Titan xmod ... they have lots scrol all the way down and go to endglow.. there is other good categories also though

try the flourescent fiber too. .. might work for you indeed

RydeFab 02-24-2007 10:18 PM

verrrrry nice chassis........awesome work"thumbsup"

draven 02-24-2007 10:58 PM

Looking GOOOOD"thumbsup" "thumbsup"

racerx 02-24-2007 11:09 PM

I saw someone use fiber optic (I think a very scale hummer) he said he got it at the LHS in the train section.;-)

obijuan 02-24-2007 11:57 PM

hmm really? thanks for all the help guys!

looneybin 02-26-2007 05:23 PM

think you change the name of this build enough.lol i don't think the name of any of my threads got changed when i requested

c0astie31 02-27-2007 06:26 PM

re

you can you a spring mount and turn it, mount it inboard of the frame and extend the lower axle bolts and mount the shock that way, or make a cross member and mount top of shocks to cross member, whould help with strength and alooks, just a idea to throw out there, by the way, your rig looks great, keep it up

yeah the shocks are too long and hit the underside of the bed to do that and they also interfere with the springs when "outboarded" and limit flex bigtime because of the minimal lift. so angled rearward they alleviate all of those problems except looks. i would rather have them staggered like my full size rig. but w/e thanks for the compliments

looneybin 02-28-2007 08:37 AM

well i was wondering if the top of the shock could cut off a little shorter and then retapped to accept the shock cap. i just cant find the correct tap to rethread the shock body.

obijuan 03-04-2007 01:34 PM

well a little update kinda. not much progress cause my fulsize blazer is getting 4.56 and an auburn limited slip here pretty quick so ive been on that for a while. also midterms are here and i should be studying. but anyways i was working on building the bed and got to the fenderwells where that **** is HARD to get them to curve and stuff. so i said f-it. ill work on em later. got it kinda assembled and im not gonna run a tailgate. i got a chevy one but a mounting tab is broke off and i am gonna build without it. coupla teaser shots to hold yall off.

lookin good!....think of the bushwacker look? (fender flairs :))

obijuan 03-04-2007 03:29 PM

what do you mean? can i get curved styrene that i can do that with? or are theyre flares availible?

ScGRaceR 03-04-2007 03:36 PM

obi that was a suggestion for a look you should go for!

85burbanator 03-04-2007 04:13 PM

looks good obi, ive got some more work to do on mine but i dont have the time really. im also stealing your idea for the bed ;-) "thumbsup" more or less one of those things to see if i can do it lol. be a along time before my crewcab body gets a chassis and axles though.

mudplower 03-04-2007 04:21 PM

it would look awsome with an airgate
